Don Lemon won’t be bringing a show to Elon Musk’s X platform, after all.
Lemon on Wednesday said that Musk “has canceled the partnership I had with X … he informed me of his decision hours after an interview I conducted with him on Friday.”
The interview with Musk is slated to be the debut episode of The Don Lemon Show, which was supposed to debut on X (formerly known as Twitter) and YouTube. Lemon says the interview will run as planned on YouTube, and that future episodes will be released there.
Lemon said that “there were no restrictions” in the interview, and that “we had a good conversation. Clearly he felt differently.”
Replying to a comment on X, Musk said that they canceled the show because “his approach was basically just ‘CNN, but on social media’, which doesn’t work, as evidenced by the fact that CNN is dying.

In a real-time reminder of the dangers of covering international conflict, CNN anchor Sara Sidner was reporting live from the West Bank city of Ramallah when a man accosted her on-air to voice criticism of the network’s coverage of the Israel-Hamas War.
“You are genocide supporters. You are not welcome here, genocide supporters,” said a man who came up to Sidner while she was in the middle of reporting on air. “Fuck CNN! Fuck CNN! Genocide supporters.” The scene was transmitted live during “CNN This Morning,” the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed network’s regular A.M. program
Sidner maintained her composure, but there were a few moments on screen when CNN’s cameras appeared to be forced back from her. Security personnel were seen moving in to her position, and, after a few moments, escorting her away from the scene. She continued to respond to anchor Erin Burnett, on...

At least one of the big companies that distribute CNN via cable or satellite is unnerved by how closely the company’s new live-streaming service looks like its TV network.
Big satellite distributor DirecTV has let executives at Warner Bros. Discovery know via letter that its executives believe the similarities between the two products violate the carriage contract between the two companies, according to a person familiar with the matter. The new CNN streaming service, CNN Max, just launched last week and includes many of programs that run on linear CNN, including “CNN This Morning,” “The Lead With Jake Tapper” and “Anderson Cooper 360.”
The New York Times previously reported the contretemps between DirecTV and Warner Bros. Discovery.
“Wbd maintains strong and meaningful relationships with our affiliate partners. Our partners are aware of and understand our rationale with Max, which is to reach new audiences,” Warner Bros. Discovery said in a statement.

CNN ventured back into streaming on Wednesday with the launch of CNN Max, a service that diverges from its past efforts in the way that it mirrors so much of the schedule of the linear network.
Primetime shows like Erin Burnett OutFront, Anderson Cooper 360 and The Source With Kaitlan Collins, as well as morning programming including Early Start with Kasie Hunt and CNN This Morning are on the scheduled unveiled on Wednesday. Other shows come from CNN International, including State of the Race with Kasie Hunt, which is debuting on Wednesday as well, and One World, with Bianna Golodryga joining Zain Asher as anchor. CNN’s new streaming product is set to look an awful lot like its familiar cable network.
CNN Max, which debuted Wednesday, has been touted as a way to get news giant’s content out to a increasing number of cord-cutters and consumers who no longer view cable as their primary way to get video entertainment and information. And parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, in the belief, perhaps, that a streaming subscription is just as good as one to a cable or satellite service, is making the bulk of its linear lineup available to the broadband crowd.
The weekday schedule of CNN Max features several new hours led by anchors such as Jim Acosta, Fredricka Whitfield, Rahel Solomon and Jim Scuitto. CNN anchor Laura Coates has moved to CAA for representation, a move that could signal a new era of influence for the talent-agency giant at the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed news outlet.
In a broad overhaul of CNN’s schedule, Coates was recently named to anchor a new 11 p.m. hour at CNN, “Laura Coates Live,” where she will follow Abby Philip, who will hold forth at 10. CAA also represents Erin Burnett, who anchors CNN’s 7 p.m. hour. All told, CAA will represent two of five of the anchors who appear during CNN’s schedule between 7 p.m. to midnight., which usually represent some of the network’s most-watched hours.
In years past, CNN’s primetime was dominated by rival agency UTA, which continues to have a strong roster at CNN. The agency represents Philip — who left CNN for UTA — as well as Anderson Cooper, Jake Tapper, Don Lemon and Alisyn Camerota.

Don Lemon shared Friday that he feels vindicated after former CNN president Chris Licht was let go from the network.
During a conversation with Kara Swisher on her podcast “Pivot,” Lemon — a former stalwart of the news network and most recently coanchor on “CNN This Morning” — opened up about his departure from CNN and the last of Licht’s reign at the company.
Lemon was ousted from CNN back in April after he made comments about Nikki Haley no longer being in her prime as a woman who is in her 50s. In June, Licht met his own demise at the network after The Atlantic published a profile story of the executive that painted him in an unfavorable light.
“Do I feel vindicated in that sense? Yes, I do,” Lemon said. “Read the story and you speak to the people who are there, and I think people get what happened.

Though the WGA and AMPTP met on Friday to discuss resuming negotiations, SAG president Fran Drescher says the studios are still “not speaking to us.”

CNN has attached a name and a launch date for Kaitlan Collins’ new primetime show.
“The Source with Kaitlan Collins” is set to premiere in its 9 p.m. Et timeslot on Monday, July 10. The new show, whose name vaguely references the network’s now-canceled “Reliable Sources,” hosted by Brian Stelter, will replace “CNN Primetime,” in the 9 p.m. hour, which Collins has been hosting over the past few weeks.
The new show will officially shift Collins off of “CNN This Morning” to primetime, leaving Collins’ co-host Poppy Harlow to host the morning program with a rotation of CNN guest anchors without a permanent co-host. While former CEO Chris Licht, who was ousted from the network in early June, lined up the re-imagined morning program in fall 2022 with Collins, Harlow and Don Lemon, the trio has since been broken up after Lemon exited the network in April.

Kaitlan Collins will officially launch as the network’s 9 p.m. Et host on Monday with a one-hour program named The Source.

In a development that may not be all that surprising, Don Lemon doesn’t seem to have many fans over at Fox News.
On Monday morning’s installment of “Fox & Friends First,” cohost Carley Shimkus and guest Beverly Hallberg broke down the former “CNN This Morning” anchor’s first interview since his firing, slamming the journalist for positioning himself as what Hallberg deemed “the arbiter of the truth.”

MSNBC dominated Fox News and CNN during Friday’s ratings as cable news channels turned their attention to cover former President Donald Trump’s newly unsealed federal indictment.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav addressed the ousting of his handpicked CNN CEO Chris Licht in an internal memo to employees on Wednesday.
“I have known Chris for many years and have enormous respect for him, personally and professionally. This job was never going to be easy, especially at a time of great disruption and transformation, and Chris poured his heart and soul into it,” Zaslav wrote. “He has a deep love for journalism and this business and that has been evident throughout his tenure. Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we had hoped – and ultimately that’s on me. I take responsibility. Needless to say, we appreciate Chris’ efforts and dedication and wish him all the best.”

Chris Licht has exited CNN a little over a year after he was hired as CEO, a short but turbulent tenure at the cable network mired in controversy, plunging ratings and a horribly haywire Donald Trump town hall event that irretrievably broke staff morale.
Licht was handpicked as CEO and Chairman of CNN Worldwide last April by Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav, who announced his firing Wednesday morning in an editorial call. The decision is effective immediately, according to a Wednesday morning release from Wbd.

CNN chief Chris Licht told staffers Monday he wants to help them make the news rather than play a central figure in it.
In the wake of a devastating profile of the CNN CEO published Friday by The Atlantic, Licht set about soothing frayed nerves Monday by telling employees on the news outlet’s regular morning call that “I should not be in the news unless it’s taking arrows for you. Your work is what should be written about,” according to two people familiar with the matter.
The words are the first from Licht to be made public since the piece was unveiled. Thanks to a rich vein of unfettered access provided over months, the piece detailed the executive’s struggles — and some of his insecurities — during his first year on the job at the Warner Bros. Responding to a Tuesday report that CNN’s ratings are dropping below Newsmax, Megyn Kelly called the news network’s current predicament “a true existential crisis,” targeted former CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker as “the grim reaper” and slammed its slate of anchors as “Trump haters.”
She did, however, spare some kind words for Jake Tapper, who she said “at least tries to be fair.”
“I know people don’t agree with me, but that’s how I see him,” she said.
The segment of Tuesday’s episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show” came as Kelly and her pair of guests, The Federalist editor Emily Jashinsky and Washington Free Beacon editor-in-chief Eliana Johnson, responded to The Daily Beasts reporting on CNN that found “last week, the cable news pioneer suffered its lowest-rated week since June 2015, averaging just 429,000 total daily viewers from Monday-Friday.”

A year and a half after the termination of Chris Cuomo left the hour open, CNN has found a new 9 p.m. anchor.

Kaitlan Collins will officially be moving from “CNN This Morning” to take over the coveted 9 p.m. slot on the network. CNN CEO Chris Licht announced the news on Wednesday as part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront presentation in New York.
Collins will be anchoring the 9 p.m. slot regularly starting in June. This currently untitled program will air nightly and will focus on exposing “uncovered angles” and challenging “conventional wisdom to make sure viewers are seeing a story from every side.”
“In her new program, officially launching later this summer, Kaitlan will showcase why she’s one of the top reporters and interviewers in the game,” Licht said in a press release. “She is a smart and gifted journalist who we’ve all seen hold lawmakers and newsmakers accountable. She pushes politicians off their talking points, gets real answers — and as everyone who’s worked with her knows — breaks a lot of news.

Fox’s Sean Hannity could hardly speak Thursday night. That’s how excited he was about Donald Trump’s Wednesday night CNN town hall, an event he described as “a nightmare come to life for the producers and contributors at fake news CNN.”
Hannity praised Trump as “great,” “likable” and “extremely funny” with all the enthusiasm of someone desperately trying to make a new friend. “The crowd loved him, not the anchor,” Hannity said, referring to “CNN This Morning” host and moderator of the event Kaitlan Collins.
During the live event, Collins asked Trump about E. Jean Carroll, the journalist who claimed that the former president sexually assaulted her in the ’90s. On Tuesday, Trump was found liable for defamation and sexual abuse, and Carroll was awarded $5 million. When Collins pressed Trump on this lawsuit, Trump mocked Carroll and called her a “wack job.” His mockery drew applause and laughter from the audience.

Kaitlan Collins, fresh off moderating CNN’s polarizing town hall with Donald Trump Wednesday evening, is expected to take over the network’s 9 p.m. primetime spot, according to media reports.
Collins, who currently co-anchors “CNN This Morning” alongside solely co-anchor Poppy Harlow after Don Lemon was ousted from the network last month, is likely to move into the vacant time slot, which has not had a permanent host in over a year.
Puck first reported the news, and no official announcement has been made. A spokesperson for CNN declined to comment on “speculation.” Reports indicated that Collins was offered the spot before Wednesday’s town hall.

Former Republican Representative Liz Cheney is going after Donald Trump in a new ad, which is scheduled to air in New Hampshire ahead of CNN’s town hall with Trump on Wednesday. The pointed minute-long commercial calls out Trump’s involvement in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and claims that “there has never been a greater dereliction of duty by any president.”
“Donald Trump has proven he is unfit for office. Donald Trump is a risk America can never take again,” Cheney says in the final seconds of the commercial.
The ad switches between clips of Trump and the Jan. 6 riots as Cheney provides a voiceover. “Donald Trump is the only president in American history who has refused to guarantee the peaceful transfer of power. He betrayed millions of Americans by telling them the election was stolen. He ignored the rulings of dozens of courts,” Cheney says.

It’s an idea that would make any news executive salivate. What if MSNBC revived CNN’s old “Crossfire” show, enlisting Tucker Carlson from the right and Don Lemon from the left?
Such a concept would normally be unthinkable. Tucker Carlson is known for his work on Fox News. Don Lemon has long held forth for CNN. It has been that way for years. Until, as of earlier this week, it wasn’t.
Within the space of 90 minutes on April 24, Carlson was ousted from Fox News Channel and Lemon was pushed from CNN. Both were stalwart personalities for their networks. Both were valued for their ability to spark conversation, debate, pushback and even furor. For years, that has been the cable-news coin of the realm. As the economics of TV shift, however, it is becoming clearer that media executives may have less patience for TV-news pot-stirrers.

Don Lemon’s abrupt firing on Monday just moments after he co-hosted “CNN This Morning” sent shockwaves throughout the news industry and now the reasons behind why CNN gave the anchor his walking papers are coming into focus.
Speculation was rampant both internally and externally Monday as Lemon’s colleagues and media peers wondered why exactly the anchor was fired: Was it the Nikki Haley comments that were deemed misogynistic? The heated interview with GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy? An on-set clash with co-host Kaitlan Collins? Was it the morning show’s low ratings? It was all the above, apparently.
According to insiders, the decision wasn’t related to any one thing but rather a sum of the parts. And it certainly didn’t help Lemon that internal research showed that he was “not working” with CNN’s female-skewing audience in the morning, a network executive told TheWrap.

Don Lemon’s abrupt departure from CNN will mean another shuffling of its morning-show lineup — a distressingly familiar scenario at the cable news outlet.

After Don Lemon’s abrupt firing from “CNN This Morning” Monday, co-anchors Kaitlan Collins and Poppy Harlow briefly responded Tuesday, echoing CEO Chris Licht in wishing him “the best.”
“As you may have heard yesterday, CNN parted ways with anchor Don Lemon. In a statement, CNN CEO Chris Licht thanks Don for his contributions over the past 17 years, writing in part, ‘Don will forever be a part of the CNN family. We wish him well. And we’ll be cheering him on in his future endeavors,'” Harlow said, catching the early morning audience up on the previous day’s announcement.
“Of course, Don was a big part of this show over the last six months,” Collins said. “He was one of the first anchors on CNN to have me on his show. That’s something I’ll obviously never forget. I agree with Chris. We wish him the best.

Late-night comedians had a field day with Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon’s cable news ousters on Monday, including Jimmy Kimmel, who took the opportunity to joke that he’d also been abruptly let go from his hosting job.
Just as Kimmel was recapping Carlson and Lemon’s respective exits from Fox News and CNN, Kimmel’s sidekick Guillermo cut in with a mock announcement that “ABC TV has decided to part ways with host Jimmy Kimmel. This was a mutual decision… And, on a personal note, I would like to say to Jimmy: Don’t let the door hit...

A tough eight months for Don Lemon only got tougher Monday for the longtime cable news host when he was fired by CNN after 17 years with the network.
The move, announced in a statement by CNN before Lemon posted his own version of the day’s events online, came as a surprise across the news media spectrum and only hours after Lemon had appeared on “CNN This Morning” in his daily role as show host.
But it wasn’t bad ratings after his shift from primetime to mornings or an investigation into his history of inappropriate remarks or behavior in the workplace from a recent report that ultimately toppled Lemon. According to the New York Times, a more recent issue with an on-air interview he was part of last Wednesday in which he casually shot back at an Indian American about “whatever ethnicity you are” played a role in his firing.

Megyn Kelly appeared to learn live on air that Don Lemon had been fired from his hosting duties at CNN while recording her podcast, “The Megyn Kelly Show,” on Monday. In her response, she admitted that she’s “not exactly Don Lemon’s fan,” but she contended that if the dismissal rolled out the way Lemon claimed it did, then it was a “classless” move from the network and CEO Chris Licht.
“Oh my god, so there’s now breaking news from CNN,” Kelly said, still recovering from a prior discussion about Tucker Carlson’s Fox News exit. She joked, “Oh my god, am I still employed myself?”
Responding to Lemon’s claim that he learned of his firing over the phone via his agent rather than by Licht and CNN’s upper management speaking with him directly, she conceded that he’s “not wrong” and that “if that’s true,...

With all due respect to the debate over theatrical windowing, CinemaCon 2023 in Las Vegas kicked off with conversation not about movie theaters, but about much smaller screens. At Caesar’s Palace, everyone’s talking about cable news.
The dominoes dropped early and fast on Monday: First Tucker Carlson was fired by Fox News, and then Don Lemon was let go at CNN.
Carlson, who “agreed to part ways” with Fox News on Monday, and Lemon, who said in a Twitter post that he was informed by his agent that he was “terminated” by CNN, sucked up a lot of the oxygen early going amid all the Day 1 CinemaCon festivities.
If we were betting men, we’d be spending more time at the craps table — or, we would have guessed that the hot Monday topic in Vegas would be the sudden departure of NBCUniversal chief Jeff Shell, who was fired Sunday...
