Passion And Death On The Cross
25 April 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Passion is the fourth episode about Jesus and the penultimate episode of the mini-series.In it,we get to see his passion and death on the cross.

Among the events depicted in this episode are Peter's denial of Jesus three times when people of the crowd recognized him as one of his apostles. Also,we get to see Judas hang himself after he is full of guilt with his betrayal of Jesus. Then we meet Pontius Pilate, portrayed brilliantly by Greg Hicks. In it,we get to see when the Pharisees brought Jesus to him to trial.During the trial,we get to witness Jesus being scourged on the pillars and a crown of thorns placed in his head to mock his claim of being a king.Added to that,we get to see Pilate sentenced Jesus into death on the cross reluctantly after asking the crowd chose Barabbas as the prisoner to be freed. Then Jesus carries his cross to Golgotha and gets crucified. After being nailed on the cross,we get to see his mother Mary suffer gravely on seeing his son. Then Jesus is buried after he dies on the cross.

This is another great episode particularly the trial of Jesus in front of Pontius Pilate. The viewers get to see a political thriller especially when the Pharisees led by Caiaphas convinces Pilate to put Jesus into trial and consequently sentencing him to death due to the danger that he has brought to the establishment.Added to that,it was also creative of the writers for the Pharisees to put into consideration Pilate's leadership as a governor and success of his governance especially when he was reluctant in putting in crucifying him.I felt that the mini- series got accurately what Pilate is all about.Aside from that, the viewer will definitely realize how he was somewhat manipulated by Caiaphas and his cohorts to put Jesus into death after they have no power whatsoever to condemn him.

The only thing I could say in this episode is that the episode is somewhat short of fully detailing the sufferings and death of Jesus.Added to that, there were definitely a few inconsistencies with the events in it when compared to the scriptures which some Christians would find it offensive when telling the story of Jesus. But nevertheless,it is still one great episode especially the mini-series heads to its conclusion.
