‘Silicon Valley’ Writer Named in Breitbart Exposé: Leaked Emails Reveal Crude Remarks About GamerGate Targets

  • Indiewire
As Hollywood got caught up in the maelstrom surrounding Harvey Weinstein on Thursday, another major media story also broke courtesy of Buzzfeed, revealing how Breitbart News and Milo Yiannopoulos influenced the mainstream media with Nazi and white nationalist ideas over the past few years.

The detailed story was partly based on a number of emails sent and received by Yiannopoulos. Those exchanges included a number of reporters, who would email Yiannopoulos encouraging him to attack certain women, offer up tips, or simply ask crude questions. Among those emailing Yiannopoulos was journalist Dan Lyons, who in 2015 seemed awfully interested in the gender of various GamerGate targets who were in Yiannopoulos’s bullseye.

These emails, per Buzzfeed’s quotes and screenshots, include Lyons asking Yiannopoulos if game designer Zoë Quinn is “a biological female or trans?”, to which Yiannopoulos replied “She is a girl… A hideous girl but a girl.”

Emmy Parties 2016: CAA, UTA, Wme, ICM and Gersh Celebrate Nominees and New Season

The Friday night agency party crawl has become a staple of Emmy weekend.

The fortunate few who were invited to all of them had the high-class problem of mapping a route that wound through the home of UTA managing partner Jay Sures in Brentwood, the Little Holmby digs of Gersh’s Leslie Siebert, Bouchon (CAA) in Beverly Hills and Catch La (Wme) in West Hollywood.

Among the Emmy weekend warriors on the circuit were Fox Television Group’s Dana Walden and NBCUniversal Cable’s Bonnie Hammer. Both of them also managed to make time to stop in at the Variety/Women in Film bash at Gracias Madre, just down the street from Wme’s gathering.

Bouchon was packed with A-listers who wound their way through every nook-and-cranny of the famed Thomas Keller eatery. Showrunners “Better Call Saul’s” Peter Gould talked up production for season three of his AMC hit and “Mr. Robot’s” Sam Esmail tried

'Halloween Returns' Wants 'Community' Star Gillian Jacobs
Back in June, Dimension Films announced that their long-awaited Halloween franchise follow-up, Halloween Returns, is moving forward with director Marcus Dunstan at the helm. That report revealed production would begin in July, but it isn't known if filming has even begun yet, since the filmmaker has yet to lock down a cast. Halloween Daily News recently spoke with Marcus Dunstan, who revealed that he is eyeing Community star Gillian Jacobs for the lead role.

"I really like this actress Gillian Jacobs. She's known for all this comedy on Community, and yet I didn't know her from Community first, I knew her from a movie called Gardens of the Night, which is one of the most wrenching dramas, and she's excellent. I thought, 'I wonder if this great performer would do that again, would like to go there, and I think so."

The director's statement seems to confirm Gillian Jacobs has already come aboard,

Interview: Craig Johnson Co-Writer/Director of The Skeleton Twins

Craig Johnson chats about The Skeleton Twins

Harrison Pierce: Can you talk a little bit about the genesis of this project?

Craig Johnson: I co-wrote it with my buddy, Mark Heyman, while we were still grad students at N.Y.U. [New York University]. Mark actually knew someone who was involved in a student-teacher relationship [and] we thought that was fertile ground for a movie. In the finished version of the movie, that story is more backstory but, in our original drafts, that element was kind of the whole story. But once we gave the “student” character a sister, we started falling in love with this brother-sister relationship and that became the heart of the movie. And that really came from my relationship with my own sister; the way [we] connect is through a dark, macabre, somewhat twisted sense of humor. And we wanted the [characters] connecting through their sense of humor, especially considering that

The Bottom Shelf: The Toxic Avenger Parts III and IV

Two outings for The Toxic Avenger and a surprisingly good vampire movie feature in this month's Bottom Shelf...

The advent of high definition technology has ushered in an era of unsurpassed quality in terms of the home-cinema experience. Which brings us to Troma Entertainment head honchos Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, whose final two Toxic Avenger sequelsmake their way onto Blu-ray this month.

Not by any stretch of the imagination a pair of essential HD releases (you could argue the grainy footage of any Troma film is best viewed on ancient VHS), The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation Of Toxie and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV are what they are: both the best and worst of Kaufman

The film is about a woman (Basinger) who really wants to have a baby, but can't do so, and sets off on a quest to do something about it only ending up in what seems to be a very messed up situation. ‘Thrill Ride’ Brings A Comedy Slasher To Fox

20th Century Fox have just picked up a comedy slasher with the title Thrill Ride after a pitch from Brendan O’Brien and Andrew Jay Cohen, the writers behind Neighbors (Bad Neighbours here in the UK). The pair will also make this their directorial debut with the horror comedy, but won’t be supplying the script themselves. That job goes to Peter Warren.

The film will see a senior high school class visit an amusement park at the end of a semester, only for people to end up dead. As well as directing, O’Brien and Cohen will produce along with Chernin Entertainment. This won’t be the first time Fox has produced a comedy slasher, as they had a hand in Broken Lizard’s extremely underrated Club Dread back in 2004. Fox will certainly be hoping for some better returns this time around though, as Club Dread only managed $5,000,000 domestically.

Craig Johnson’s The Skeleton Twins is a humdrum dramedy that never comes to life, despite the talents that have been united for its existence. Featuring two evolving “Saturday Night Live” alums and executive produced by Mark & Jay Duplass, the film prods along with its character study into fictional beings whose dimensions are greatly reduced when they are seen as more than just sad people.
