The Early Story Of Jesus
22 April 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Hope is the first of five episodes that the mini-series focuses on the events of the New Testament. In this particular episode,it starts with the birth of Jesus up to the event that leads the meet-up between him and his future apostle,Peter in the Sea Of Galilea.

The episode starts when the Annunciation occurred wherein the Angel Gabriel makes an appearance to Mary and tells her that she will bear a son. Then, her story takes off that begins when she and her future husband Joseph had issues with the father of the child. When this was settled, they get married and they take a journey to Bethlehem in accordance to the Census. Then Jesus was born on a manger and was visited by a group of shepherds and three wise men. Then,Joseph,Mary and the baby Jesus escapes towards Egypt after King Herod ordered the death of all male children under 2 years of age in Bethlehem.

Then years pass by and Judea comes under the rule of Pontius Pilate.John The Baptist baptized Jesus at the Jordan River. After the said event,Jesus goes into the wilderness and gets tempted by Satan after 40 days and 40 nights of fasting. The episode ends when Jesus goes into the Sea Of Galilea and helps Peter catch fish after the latter has had difficulty fishing. After the miraculous catch,he calls Peter to become his apostle.

This is definitely best episode of the mini-series so far.The controversial scenes that involved the President Obama-look alike actor that portrayed Satan during the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness was definitely done great that it would certainly show the deception that the devil does towards a person to fall into sin. This will serve as an eye-opener to viewers how to deal with temptations the way Jesus did and how man fall basically to it due the great capability of a person to practically deceive himself.

The only complaint I would probably have is that there are too many creative licenses taken to the point that many events of retelling the story of Jesus has become somewhat far from accurate. One worth mentioning it the calling of the first apostles.Instead of showing Peter,Andrew,James and John;the episode only showed Peter. But in spite of it,I still found it worth watching and very entertaining especially in re-telling the story of Jesus.
