An entertaining special but not the best
17 August 2013 | by (Bailey Downs!) – See all my reviews

Now, my personal favourite of the anniversary specials is "Suburban Knights". I think this one is better than "Kickassia" because from a story aspect I would definitely call this the best one...not that that matters in these things.

Anyway, I'll start with the problems, firstly, I saw this whole thing in 3 and a half hours. Now don't get me wrong, I was pretty much laughing from beginning to end but it DID drag itself because how many times can you watch virtually joke after joke after joke being thrown at you. Again, I was laughing even when the film had 15 minutes to go but it dragged on a bit. The second is one which is definitely a "what did you expect?" one but I feel as though it has to be mentioned, the CGI is crap. This is an internet movie so I know that it was never meant to be good but its still something worth pointing out.

The good points are that even with the "Lord Of The Rings" runtime I was still laughing from beginning to end. The jokes are a bit different from Suburban Knights but as a whole I do believe that they are both still funny as hell comedies. The acting and directing does seem to have improved but its still...shoddy at best.

The very bizarre plot is that The Nostalgia Critic is put on house arrest thanks to Turrell from the film Battlefield Earth and he decides to steal things from Dr. Insano (after convincing the "League Of Super Critics" - not referenced in the film, I made it up - to do it) and they go to Jupiter to find the Plot Hole and find the connection to that and Ma-Ti sharing a mind with Spoony.

Now this DOES have its problems such as the runtime and if you aren't acquainted with sci-fi references you'll be completely lost but if you can also sit back and take in a mindless comedy then this is for you.

PS. Usually I give "just mindless comedies" 8/10, the only reason this gets any higher is that it did make me laugh even at the film's VERY LATE stages.
