New Regency, See-Saw Films Partner for First-Look Deal
New Regency and production company See-Saw Films have signed a three-year, first-look development, financing, and production deal for films.

Under the deal, announced on Thursday, See-Saw will develop movies to be financed by and co-produced with New Regency. In addition to development and production financing, the first look provides See-Saw with global studio distribution through New Regency’s deal with 20th Century Fox for all films greenlit under the deal.

The announcement was made by New Regency Chairman Yariv Milchan, and See-Saw managing directors Iain Canning and Emile Sherman.

Stanley Tucci cast in A Private War

Variety has reported that Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games) will be joining Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades Freed) and Tom Hollander (The Night Manager) in the independent journalism biopic A Private War.

The film is being directed by Matthew Heineman (Cartel Land, City of Ghosts) and stars Pike as American-born British war reporter Marie Colvin, exploring her dangerous assignments in conflict zones such as Chechnya, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

Arash Amel has penned the script from Marie Brenner’s 2012 Vanity Fair article ‘Marie Colvin’s Private War’, while Basil Iwanyk, Marissa McMahon, Charlize Theron and Matthew George serve as producers alongside Denver & Delilah Films.

Stanley Tucci Joins Rosamund Pike, Jamie Dornan in ‘A Private War’ (Exclusive)
Stanley Tucci has enlisted in “A Private War,” the upcoming movie about famed war correspondent Marie Colvin, Variety has learned. He joins Rosamund Pike (“Gone Girl”), Jamie Dornan (“Fifty Shades of Grey”), and Tom Hollander (“The Night Manager”) in the picture. Pike plays Colvin, and Dornan photographer Paul Conroy.

Based on a Vanity Fair article by Marie Brenner, the film follows the exploits of American-born Brit Colvin, who was tragically killed in Homs, Syria, in 2011. It takes in her fearless work in war-torn locales including Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Syria, which are juxtaposed with her home life back in London.

“A Private War” is BAFTA, DGA and Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Matthew Heineman’s first narrative project after helming feature documentaries including “Cartel Land” and “City of Ghosts.” Arash Amel (“Grace of Monaco”) penned the script.

Little is yet known about Tucci’s character in the film, but he will figure in the London part of the project

Reese Witherspoon has been named as a defendant in a lawsuit by a writer who says that the book and movie “Gone Girl” ripped off her own work. In addition to Witherspoon, who served as a producer on the film, the suit also names “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn, director David Fincher, 20th Century Fox Film Corporation and other defendants. In the suit, filed in federal court in Illinois on Wednesday, Leslie Weller says that she first filed a registration for her work “Out of the Blue” with the U.S. Copyright Office in 2006 and later emailed a copy of it.
