"Y: The Last Man Rising" is a 21-minute short film from 4 years ago written and directed by Christian Cardona. Cardona is mostly known for his visual effects work on all kinds of films and shows that also brought him an Emmy nomination. Judging from his efforts here as the man in charge I believe it's better if he sticks to visual effects. The premise is pretty great and offers also potential for a whole series based on this, but the execution is just uninteresting as the script really has nothing of value beyond that premise. All men die except one and a trained female soldier is out to protect him and make sure nothing happens to him guiding him safely to a scientific institution that intends to find out why he is the only one that survived. The ending is quite a cliffhanger, so Cardona probably intended to make a second film at some point or, as I said before, create a series based on this short film. Looks like it's not gonna happen. And I am not too mad about it. Very mediocre short film. Not recommended.
