Supergirl Recasts Teenage Kara And Alex For Flashback Episode

6 September 2017 9:34 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Much like its other sister shows occupying the Arrowverse, Supergirl has embraced the comic books that have inspired it by surrounding the title character with a rich supporting cast. Aside from Kara’s sister, Alex, fans have come to also love the likes of James Olsen/the Guardian, J’onn J’onzz/Martian Manhunter and Mon-El.

Now, while each of those major players listed undoubtedly hold a special place in the Girl of Steel’s heart, one could argue that it’s actually Alex who keeps Kara tethered to humanity better than all others. After all, we’ve seen what happens when a Kryptonian goes off the rails in the Injustice games and such, so it’s important that our heroine have her rock, as it were.

As viewers of this series know by now, their sisterly bond dates back to when the Danvers family took in Kara at the »

‘The Fosters’ Season Finale: Ice’s Pursuit and Old Exes Return

5 September 2017 6:00 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched “Prom,” the summer finale of “The Fosters” which aired Sept. 5.

The Fosters'” summer finale opened with the continuation of the protest against a conservative speaker coming to a local college. Ximena (Lisseth Chavez) grabbed the megaphone in front of her peers and supporters, as well as police officers and those protesting against her group, and declared herself undocumented. While she had been shown all season to be a strong woman who was not hiding who she was, her public declaration pointed an arrow at the target already on her back.

“She was standing up for what she believes is right: not to be afraid to speak, not to be afraid in general,” executive producer Joanna Johnson tells Variety. “Illegal immigrants have rights. They have civil rights, and they have the right to freedom of speech, and they have the right to peacefully protest. And »

‘The Fosters’ Season Finale Tackles Trump’s Anti-Immigration Policies

5 September 2017 9:30 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Freeform’s family drama “The Fosters” is known for punctuating its season premieres and finales with stories that deal with hot button issues. The summer finale for the show’s fifth season follows the pattern as executive producer Joanna Johnson and her writers did not want to ignore recent news headlines surrounding immigration laws.

“We always do try to make sure that these stories reverberate personally with our characters and our family, that we’re not just telling ‘issues of the week,'” Johnson tells Variety.

The Fosters” has taken on the topic before, through the character of Lexi (Bianca A. Santos) who, in a pivotal first season episode, actually threatened to call the authorities and get her own undocumented parents arrested. Now, though, Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Callie’s (Maia Mitchell) new friend Ximena (Lisseth Chavez) revealed that her father has been updating their family’s plan for what would happen if he were to get »
