A Man Named Brando (2006)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Elia Kazan, Kim Hunter, Karl Malden and Richard Schickel are interviewed for this 9-minute documentary that can be found on Warner's 2-disc Special Edition of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. The film basically takes a look at Brando's performance in this film and it really comes off as a loving tribute to the great actor. Kazan talks about directing him and Hunter talks about how he was the sweetest person she had known. The real moving section comes from Malden who talks about them being dressing room mates for two years and then he discusses the three films they made together. Malden talks about why the two of them worked so well together and then he talks about the final time he spoke to Brando. Malden comes off so charming that you can't help but be moved by the stories he tells. There's certainly nothing ground-breaking here and there's been a longer documentary (BRANDO) made but there's no question that this is worth watching especially if you're a fan of the actor.
