- Ming turns L.J.'s mistreated girlfriend into a Frost Person who fights against the Defenders.
- LJ beats his girlfriend Kate in a game of anti-grav racquetball. Later, as the young couple make their way home, LJ tells Kate that she's still a winner as long as she's his girl, but Kate takes exception to this and says that she's her own person and that she let him win the racquetball game. She then walks off in a huff and, shortly after, is accosted by two men in a van, from whom she tries to escape. However, she is quickly captured and bundled into the van which then drives off.
At school the next day, LJ tells Rick and Jedda he can't understand why Kate was so angry over what he said, to which Jedda says Kate had every reason to be upset and that LJ should apologise for the way he acted and ask Kate out again. Shortly after, Rick, LJ and Jedda meet up with the seemingly unharmed Kate, who tells LJ she's sorry about what happened and invites him on another date, adding that Rick and Jedda might like to join them. Rick and Jedda agree and LJ makes arrangements to pick Kate up that evening. Jedda wonders why Kate is wearing sunglasses indoors, as does Rick. LJ suggests Kate cried herself to sleep over the thought of losing him, but Jedda doubts this.
Later, as the Phantom, Mandrake, Lothar and Kshin watch, Flash demonstrates the laser cannon which has just been installed on the Defenders' Space Station. This weapon is capable of destroying an entire city and Mandrake says he hopes the Defenders will never have to use it. Shortly after, Rick, LJ and Jedda arrive with Kate in tow, and LJ introduces Kate to everyone before the four teens set off on their date. When the subject of where they are going to go comes up, Kate suggests taking a trip up to the Space Station, to which LJ agrees when she says it will be romantic. Rick and Jedda tell LJ it's against regulations to bring unauthorised personnel into the Space Station, but LJ persuades them to make an exception for Kate.
Rick, LJ, Jedda and Kate fly up to the Space Station in one of the Defenders' ships. Before they enter, Rick shuts down Dynak's connection with the Space Station to keep her from alerting the other Defenders. But it turns out that Kate's suggestion was not all it seemed. The men who kidnapped her were some of Ming's agents and she has been turned into a Frost Person, as she reveals shortly after she, Rick, LJ and Jedda arrive on the Space Station. After overpowering him, Rick and Jedda, Kate tells LJ that she's no longer his girl and that she now belongs to Ming. Meanwhile, Ming's forces are on their way to the Space Station. LJ says they won't get past Dynak's defences, but Rick reminds him that these have been deactivated.
Back at Monitor, Dynak alerts Flash and Mandrake to a systems shutdown on the Space Station. Flash decides this will have to be investigated and tells Mandrake to get the Phantom and Lothar. Flash and the others take the Swordship up to the Space Station, arriving to find four of Ming's robo-ships nearby. Ming has seized control of the Space Station where he and Garax are in the control room with the button which activates the laser cannon. After Flash and the others destroy all four robo-ships, Ming orders Garax to use the laser cannon to shoot the Swordship down, which Garax does, blowing off one of the Swordship's wings and sending the craft hurtling towards Earth.
Ming contacts Flash and the others and mockingly thanks them for the laser cannon which he says will be very useful to him. He adds that he has one final message before they meet their doom, only for contact to be broken before he can deliver this message. Flash says the only way to stop Ming from turning the laser cannon on Earth is to destroy the Space Station. Mandrake asks how they are going to do that when they will soon be dead, to which Flash replies that there is a self-destruct mechanism on the Space Station which can be triggered remotely. With the agreement of his fellow Defenders, Flash activates this device, causing a computer inside the Space Station to start counting down from 30 minutes. However, Flash and the others survive the crash when Flash takes the desperate gamble of sending the Swordship spinning towards Earth. Dynak then reports that she has recovered the rest of Ming's last transmission, which reveals that Rick, LJ and Jedda are prisoners on the Space Station.
Since the self-destruct mechanism can only be deactivated from inside the Space Station once it is armed, Flash and the others must now get to the Space Station before it is too late. Meanwhile, Rick, LJ and Jedda escape from their cell and, battling Ming's Ice Robots along the way, head for the control room. LJ parts company from Rick and Jedda to go and look for Kate. Eventually, he crosses paths with her and as she turns on him tries to break Ming's control over her, which seems to be working. Ming then orders her to kill LJ, who tells her that if she's her own person like she said she shouldn't be allowing Ming to manipulate her. This finally enables LJ to get through to her and she stops attacking.
Just as Garax is about to kill LJ and Kate on Ming's orders, Flash appears on the scene with the Phantom, Mandrake and Lothar and shoots Garax's gun out of his hand. Ming and Garax escape, and with time rapidly running out Flash and the others race towards the self-destruct mechanism. As he runs up the corridor leading to the mechanism, Flash realises he isn't going to make it in time and shoots out the mechanism, stopping the countdown with one second to spare. Everyone regroups on the Space Station's viewing platform, where Kate apologises for all the trouble she caused, to which Mandrake says she isn't to blame and that she was being used by Ming. Rick, LJ and Jedda then learn that they are grounded for breaking regulations.
