‘John Wick: Chapter 2′ Blu-ray Review

Stars: Keanu Reeves, Riccardo Scamarcio, Ian McShane, Ruby Rose, Common, Claudia Gerini, Lance Reddick, Laurence Fishburne, Tobias Segal, John Leguizamo | Written by Derek Kolstad | Directed by Chad Stahelski

2014′s John Wick took pretty much everyone by surprise. The third in a trilogy of action movies Keanu Reeves made in 2013/4, John Wick succeeded where 47 Ronin and The Man of Tai Chi (in which Reeves played the villain) didn’t. And that’s not to say that either of those films were sub-par, far from it. However there was something about the stoic, unstoppable hitman John Wick that resonated with audiences across the globe. And so three years later we finally get a sequel.

From the same writer/director team as the first film, Derek Kolstad and Chad Stahelski respectively, John Wick: Chapter 2 picks up where the first film left off. Literally. John heads back to the gang who stole his

Federico Zampaglione giallo ‘Tulpa’ finally gets a UK release!

I am incredibly pleased to announce that one of my favourite giallo of all time (and I say that without a hint of sarcasm or irony – just go back and read my reviews of the film to see that), Tulpa is Finally getting a UK release! High Fliers Films and Jinga Films have this week announced the long awaited UK DVD release of Federico Zampaglione’s sensational neo-giallo horror – which is set to hit UK stores on May 9th 2016.

Italian rock star Federico Zampaglione burst on to the genre scene in 2010 with psychological horror Shadow, which was released by IFC Midnight in North America and Wild Bunch in the UK. Determined to de-throne Dario Argento as the king of Italian horror, Zampaglione quickly followed up with Tulpa, a homage to the aformentioned Il Duce of giallo. The film sees Claudia Gerini (The Passion Of Christ) stars as a successful business

An Interview with Claudia Gerini

Italian actress Claudia Gerini is best known to UK audiences for appearances in The Passion of the Christ, Penelope Cruz’s Don’t Move and as a memorable villain in the TV adaptation of Kate Mosse’s Labyrinth. Audiences will soon be able to see her in the mad Italian sex-thriller Tulpa, directed by her husband Federico Zampaglione, whose previous film was the neat little horror, Shadow. A throwback to the classic Italian giallo horror-thrillers of the 1960s and 70s, Tulpa concerns a beautiful banker, Lisa (Gerini) whose life becomes a nightmare when members of the sex club she frequents begin turning up dead.

Red Band Trailer for Federico Zampaglione's Tulpa

Audiences at last summer's Film4 FrightFest in London will have no trouble remembering the world premiere of Federico Zampaglione's giallo homage, Tulpa. From the cheesy sex scenes to the poorly dubbed Italian cast, Tulpa proved a highlight of the weekend, albeit for all the wrong reasons. However, it seems to have served as something of a wake-up call. Following the film's disasterous debut, Zampaglione took Tulpa back into the editing room and has reportedly excised 20 minutes out of it. Judging from the film's new red band trailer, he has also re-dubbed the cast, which might go some way to easing the problems of the version we saw back in August. The re-edited version of the film apparently fared far better at Sitges, San Sebastian and...

Federico Zampaglione’s Tulpa Stabs Online with a Red Band Trailer

Our own James Mudge reviewed Federico Zampaglione’s sexy horror thriller “Tulpa” when it was playing the festival circuit last year, but for those of you who missed it, have no fear, it’s (probably) coming to a theater near you. That is, if your local theater is prone to showing Dario Argento-inspired giallo-inclined genre films. (You can read James’ review of the film here if you’re so inclined.) Jinga Films currently has the movie scheduled for a 2013 release date, and you can check out what they have in store for you by viewing the Red Band trailer for the film below. Warning: it’s sexy. And bloody. Sexy-bloody, if you will. A powerful stock broker frequents Tulpa, a sex club owned by a mysterious Tibetan guru. Unshackled from the pressure of her job she will do anything to attain a higher consciousness, but when her lovers are murdered in shocking ways,

Red-band, Nsfw trailer: New giallo film “Tulpa”
Directed by Federico Zampaglione from a script he wrote with Giacomo Gensini, based on a story by veteran Italo-horror scribe Dardano Sacchetti, Tulpa stars Claudia Gerini as Lisa, a businesswoman who leads a secret night life of sexual exploration and experimentation, centered on the titular nightclub. When her lovers start getting brutally killed, she undertakes her own investigation to avoid exposing her carnal activities. Michele Placido and Nuit Arquint (Shadow’s memorable villaing Mortis) co-star; Leonardo Cruciano created the makeup FX, and actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta (whose credits range from The Day Of The Beast to The Rite) was one of the producers.

Tulpa, which we first reported on here, screened last year at London’s FrightFest in not-quite-completed form. “We knew what worked in the genre,” Zampaglione says, “but we were also aware of its shortcomings, and that is why we test-screened a rough cut of the film to an audience at Frightfest.

Frightfest 2012 Review: Tulpa

Tulpa

Stars: Claudia Gerini, Michele Placido, Nuot Arquint, Michela Cescon, Ennio Tozzi | Written by Federico Zampaglione, Giacomo Gensini | Directed by Federico Zampaglione

Tul-pa (from the Tibetan): meaning a magically produced illusion or creation. The concept of a being or object which is created through sheer discipline alone. It is a materialized thought that has taken physical form.

Italian rock star turned director Federico Zampaglione made a splash in 2009 when his first film Shadow played to a packed audience at London’s Frightfest. Returning some three years later and after teasing the film at Frightfest Glasgow earlier this year, Zampaglione unleashed Tulpa on an eager and willing audience. Word of mouth had built the film up to be one of the must-see films of Saturday, and I for one wasn’t disappointed.

The film tells the story of businesswoman Lisa Boeri: she has a good job, she’s well respected
