Did You Know?

Earl Haraldson: The killers, they dug a shallow grave. And before they buried them... they cut their heads off. And when they laid them in the ground, they... they put their faces against their asses... as a sign of disrespect. If I ever find the man who did that... I will... I took these locks of hair from their heads. See Siggy... when you have such knowledge... being married to a rich, old man isn't so bad.

Botched raid.

The Earl decides it's time to take Ragnar out of the picture so he sends a bunch of his soldier's to Ragnar's home to kill him and all his family. Luckily our hero is out hunting deer with his bow so he is not there when they strike. He hears the commotion and comes running to save the day.

It appears that the 15-20 people working around his farm/estate are mostly farmers/women/children so they are quickly dispatched by the soldiers. Of course the wife and kids make it to their hut and await their fate.

Ragnar comes down from the hills and shoots one of the assailants with his bow and then engages 4 or 5 of the soldiers by himself. As usual his enemies (this time fellow Vikings, not Saxons) can't fight worth beans. One actually manages to slash his left thigh but that won't stop Ragnar. Another manages to shoot an arrow through his left shoulder/chest area which he plucks out. Then the chase is on!

Two bleeding wounds do not slow him down as the chasing soldiers can't keep up! Luckily none of them have a bow and arrows or Ragnar might be done for.

The rest of the show is him getting healed and the Earl looking for him to no avail. The show ends up with the Earl accepting a challenge of a fight to the death which will be resolved next episode.

Again, the acting is not horrible and the scenery is quite beautiful. The fight scenes are quite painful to watch, though, and makes one wonder how the Vikings survived (all except the ones near and dear to Ragnar).
