Jaws: The Restoration (2012)

*** (out of 4)

For Universal's 100th year celebration, the studio remastered some of their greatest titles and that included Steven Spielberg's JAWS. This short documentary takes a look at the work that had to be done in order to make sure the film looked and sounded as good as it possibly could. We get an interview with Spielberg who talks about what poor condition the original negative was and then we hear from those actually doing the work. People have become used to seeing films look terrific so this featurette shows you all the time and work that has to be done so that our favorite films look like they did when originally released. There's some fascinating stuff shown here including how the negative is cleaned as well as the scratches removed. Fans of JAWS or film preservation will enjoy this.
