Storyline

After Buchan identifies the killer's modus operandi as aping the Marquis De Sade, who murdered women after poisoning them with an aphrodisiac, Chandler and Miles hunt for the individual who contacted a firm specializing in love potions by masquerading as a couple. This leads the team to S & M club the Hooded Crow, where Mina almost falls victim to a man with vampiric tendencies. Then two more victims are found, identical in height and appearance to the first two. Chandler over-rules Mina and follows Miles' suggestion that they locate Ella Bowe, who is still alive and provides them with the key to the serial killers's identity. Written by don @ minifie-1

Ridiculous with inaccurate facts reported
23 February 2012 | by (London, England) – See all my reviews

This series is getting sillier and sillier and what a waste of otherwise good actors.

There were many mentions of De Sade and his murders. The constant references to De Sade were ridiculous and mostly false. There is no evidence whatsoever that De Sade ever murdered anyone.

The 1772 poisoning did indeed take place, where some prostitutes were taken ill after being allegedly administered Spanish Fly in food or drink by De Sade and his servant. Contrary to what was said in this episode of Whitechapel, no one died.

De Sade and his servant were sentenced to death (for poisoning and sodomy) but in absentia, as both had long fled to Italy in the meantime. De Sade and his servant were not executed, everyone knows this, they were reprieved.

There are descendants of De Sade around. They might take offense, were they to watch this silly episode.

The conclusion of the story is barely worth mentioning, the multi-personality serial killer character seemed straight out of a Monty Python sketch.
