Storyline

Starting where The Sid Saga Part 2 (1987) leaves off, Sid Laverents concludes the telling of his life story to present day. It's now 1945, and Sid has been discharged from the army air corp. He had no intention of going back to work for Consolidated in San Diego, but after a business venture to work in plastics fell through, he decided to go back to his old job, now increasingly in the field of aeronautic engineering. He also began inventing as a hobby, and started to raise chinchillas as a side venture. The transition back to married life was the most difficult. After some suspicions, Sid with a witness in hand, caught wife Stella in bed with another man, which allowed him to file for divorce. Although being a bit gun shy after two failed marriages, he decided that the third time might be the charm, which it was with third wife Adelaide Laverents. By the late 1950s, he would become interested in movie making, and ended up making a series of amateur films, both education documentaries... Written by Huggo

The Sid Saga Part 3 (1989)

*** (out of 4)

Filmmaker Sid Laverents made THE SID SAGA over the course of a few years and after it was completed he would revisit the project and add bits and pieces. It's really hard to judge a film like this because on one hand you have to admire the man for wanting to get his history down on film. There's no question that this is a pretty well made feature but at the same time you have to ask yourself if you really want to know about the life of Sid Laverents and spend so much time with what's basically a mix between a bio pic and home movies.

THE SID SAGA PART 3 picks up as our main man is discharged from his duties in the government and sets off on the rest of his life. He talks about a marriage that ended rather badly when he went home sick from work one day and realized that the wife was more than "friends" with a certain fellow. From here we see the next love of Sid's life and then more bits and pieces throughout his life up to 1989.

The final episode is without question probably the most entertaining. I say this because if you enjoyed the first two films, you've got a certain curiosity just to see how everything turned out. For the most part there's a lot more fun moments in this episode and of course more dramatic ones including the before mentioned cheating thing. As in the previous movies, this one here is made up of Sid narrating these various aspects of his life and we either get photos or video showing some of the highlights. The film ends with a nice sequence of showing photos of Sid throughout various ages of his life.

Again, the three-part series isn't going to appeal to everyone but I think film buffs should enjoy it.
