The actor has been cast in Paul Feig's spy comedy, reports Variety.
He was reported to have met with the director about the project back in October 2013.
McCarthy will play the unlikely spy Susan Cooper, with Statham as another spy forced to work with her.
20th Century Fox's Susan Cooper is scheduled for release on May 22, 2015.
Reports in October indicated that Statham had met with director Paul Feig but the actor was uncommitted as he was still weighing other options. Sources now confirm Statham has agreed to co-star in the project and that a deal should be made shortly.
In the comedy that reteams McCarthy and Feig yet again (“The Heat,” “Bridesmaids”), the story follows the adventures of an unlikely spy, Susan Cooper. Statham will play another spy McCarthy teams up with.

The project chronicles the race against the clock to defeat an unseen alien enemy out to destroy the world. Ventimiglia, repped by CAA, Management 360 and attorney Jeff Frankel, will play John Doe/Drew, who is covered in strange tattoos and diagrams and speaks in a strange language. Jason Statham is reprising his role as Arthur Bishop, the eponymous elite assassin with a talent for clean kills, often made to look like accidental deaths, and a strict code of conduct.
No word yet if Ben Foster will be reprising his role for the upcoming sequel, but Statham’s involvement alone will no doubt be enough to continue the success of the franchise.
