Samuel L. Jackson Has Joined ‘The Blob’ Remake

14 May 2015 2:03 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Samuel L. Jackson has joined the cast of The Blob remake. The new version of the classic story, which has been filmed in 1958 and 1988, will be directed by Simon West (Con Air, Wild Card), with Goldcrest Films handling distribution and global sales.

The movie, much like the 1958 original, will revolve around an alien life form that threatens a small town. Jackson will play a biochemistry professor attempting to thwart the other-worldly predator discovered deep within the earth.

Richard Saperstein, Brian Witten, Judith Parker Harris and Taewon Chung will produce the film, along with Jack Harris, the 96-year-old producer of the original movie.

West released the following in a statement: “I have been waiting to work with Samuel L. Jackson my whole career. He is a unique talent in the industry, definitely one of a kind. I am so pleased that we will finally get to collaborate on this project.”

Samuel L Jackson joins Simon West's remake of The Blob

14 May 2015 5:04 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

As a new remake of 50s monster flick The Blob moves ahead, reports are circulating that Samuel L Jackson is to star...

Earlier this year, we heard that Con Air director Simon West is set to head up a remake of 50s monster flick, The Blob - the first since the underrated  1988 iteration directed by Chuck Russell.

Hollywood's trade papers are now reporting that Samuel L Jackson is set to play the lead in West's oozing remake.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jackson will play "a biochemistry professor attempting to thwart the other-worldly predator discovered deep within the earth."

This sounds like a change of pace from the 1958 film, where the blob was delivered by meteorite, or the more paranoid 80s version, where it turned out to be manmade.

In an interview with Den Of Geek earlier this year, West described his Blob movie as "more sci-fi" and "more sophisticated" than its predecessors, »

‘Furious 7′ Wins Top Honors at Golden Trailer Awards

6 May 2015 10:15 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

After zooming past box office records when it bowed in April, the marketing campaign that drew audiences to multiplexes for “Furious 7″ took home big prizes at the 16th annual Golden Trailer Awards Wednesday night in Beverly Hills.

Universal Pictures and Av Squad’s “Furious 7″ trailer titled “Family” won the best of show prize at the awards, in addition to the award for best action. Other big winners for the evening were “American Sniper” and “The Hunger Game: Mockingjay – Part 1,” which each nabbed five awards.

Golden Trailer Awards Widens Scope While Maintaining Brevity

6 May 2015 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Attention spans are getting shorter. The Golden Trailer Awards are getting longer.

“We always prided ourselves at corking it at 70 minutes,” says Evelyn Brady-Watters, who with her sister, Monica Brady, invented the show 16 years ago and, ever since, have just let it balloon. “We’re probably up to 80 or 90 minutes by now,” Brady-Watters said, with no small degree of mock regret.

Scheduled for May 6 at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills with actor-comedian T.J. Miller (“Silicon Valley”) as emcee, the GTs will honor a field that has not only become more and more a focus of pop-cultural attention and social-media discussion but also, as a consequence, more fraught with peril.

“With great franchises comes great responsibility,” says Av Squad’s Seth Gaven, acknowledging his debt to Spider-Man and noting the finer points of making trailers for something as hotly anticipated as “Game of Thrones” or “Furious 7” — just two of »

‘Taken 3′ Takes Top Spot on Home-Video Sales Charts

30 April 2015 8:32 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

In its first week in stores, 20th Century Fox’s action sequel “Taken 3” shot to the top of the national home video sales charts the week ending April 26, ending a weeks-long dry spell of high-profile new releases.

The film, which earned $89.2 million in theaters, finds Liam Neeson reprising his role as retired CIA operative Bryan Mills, this time clearing his name after being framed for the murder of his wife. Its domestic theatrical take wasn’t nearly as much as that of the first two installments in the franchise, but the film still managed to outsell its nearest competitor, Warner’s “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” by a margin of more than 7 to 1. That’s a function, no doubt, of the fact that “The Hobbit” has been available for more than a month but remains high on the charts because of the conspicuous lack of any »

Strong Debut on Disc Chart for ‘Batman Vs. Robin’

22 April 2015 6:50 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Warner’s direct-to-video “Batman Vs. Robin” was the best-selling newcomer the week ending April 19, bowing at No. 1 on Nielsen VideoScan’s Blu-ray Disc sales chart.

But in overall disc sales, the animated “DC Universe Original Movie” was trumped by another Warner title, “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” which regained the top spot on Nielsen’s First Alert chart after spending two weeks at No. 2.

“Interstellar,” the Paramount sci-fi epic that occupied the No. 1 spot for the last two weeks, slipped to No. 3 on First Alert.

Rounding out the top five on the overall disc sales chart: Walt Disney’s “Big Hero 6,” repeating at No. 4, and 20th Century Fox’s “The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death,” a horror sequel that bowed at No. 5.

The original “The Woman in Black” came out in 2012 and driven by favorable reviews as well as Daniel “Harry Potter” Radcliffe in »

A Little Chaos movie review: necessary fantasy

17 April 2015 9:17 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Romantic and funny and smart and wise and just plain different. This is a historical costume dramedy romp about gardening. How cool is that? I’m “biast” (pro): love the cast

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Historical fantasy! Nope, there are no dragons or wizards or magic. But it’s fantasy nevertheless. And of a very welcome sort. Of a very necessary sort.

In Paris in 1682, King Louis Xiv is preparing to move his court from the Louvre in the city to the countryside palace at Versailles, and he wants gardens that he likens, not in any metaphorical way, to the divine: “Heaven shall be here,” he commands. No small task, then, for royal gardener and landscape architect André Le Notre. And Le Notre takes a real chance when he dares to hire, for one section of the gardens, »

Holdovers ‘Interstellar,’ ‘The Hobbit’ Top Slow Home Video Sales Chart

15 April 2015 5:43 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

After weeks of three or four high-profile new releases, the disc business is going through its usual pre-summer slowdown.

And with no new big theatrical releases arriving in stores last week, the two top spots on the national home video sales charts for the week ending April 12 are the same as in the prior week: Paramount’s “Interstellar” sci-fi epic, which earned $188 million at the U.S. box office, at No. 1, and Warner’s “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” the third installment in the adventure fantasy trilogy, at No. 2.

Walt Disney again took the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, with returning titles “Into the Woods” and “Big Hero 6” on the Nielsen Videoscan First Alert chart, which tracks overall disc sales, Blu-ray Disc and DVD combined. Both titles also finished the week in the same spots on Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray chart, albeit in the reverse order.

Second Trailer For Hot Pursuit With Sofia Vergara And Reese Witherspoon

10 April 2015 12:35 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

New Line Cinema

My mind has been well and truly boggled by this second promo for Hot Pursuit. Rather than being an innocuous, throwaway comedy promo in the vein of some kind of Paul Blart movie, this film seems to be juggling all sorts of oddness.

First of all there’s the scene with the chap who shoots himself while watching one woman draw another into some mock-lesbianism. This first inspires his gun to go off accidentally (and I’m sure they know what they’re doing there) and then provokes him to say some weird, arrogant and chauvinist nonsense on TV.

Then later there’s a scene where Reese Witherspoon cross-dresses as a man and gets her breasts frisked. And also a bit where Sofia Vergara mocks Reese Witherspoon’s underwear as if she’s wearing some sort of embarrassing granny panties.

Pretty much every scene in that trailer »

Wild Card: Who is the Big N’s biggest baddie?

Bowser.  Ganondorf.  Ridley.  Nintendo’s history is full of villains almost as recognizable and iconic as the company’s heroes.  Some, like Wario, are more empathetic or misunderstood (you try living in the shadow of Mario and Luigi!)  Others are downright evil, like Mother Brain or Ganondorf.  Many give us thrills and chills every time they recur, while others only needed to appear once to be permanently cemented in gamers’ minds, like Majora.  Regardless of anything else, however, all of these characters are bad.  But there is one boss who is the baddest of the bad, one sinister Nintendo villain who overshadows all others in his acts of cruelty and inhumanity. While their heinous crimes bring tears and instill fear, there is no exultation that matches overthrowing this wicked tyrant.  Doing so is no trivial task, however, it requires patience, dedication, and the ability to stare evil in the face, »

Interstellar I enjoyed Interstellar the one time I saw it, but I just don't have that urge to see it again, which make me a little sad. I'm not in a camp that looks at it as confusing or upset about the sound design, I felt it was straight-forward enough and while a little bloated, a fun ride and one I'm happy I saw in IMAX as I don't think seeing it on the small screen will do it nearly the same justice. That said, for the fans, it is here to own and you can watch it as many times as you like, complete with a ton of special features. One of which is included directly below and you can watch about 90 minutes worth right here. yt id="rNkYNfAXzx4" width="370"
