Annika in Spain parries a drug ring with links to Sweden
22 July 2013 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

What would the movies do if drugs were legal? In this drug story, "A Place in the Sun", Annika travels to the Costa del Sol where a good many Swedes have bought homes. Her mission is to look into the deaths of a family by gas during a robbery. It turns out to be murder and there is one young woman missing.

Annika is thus led to look into drug money laundering in Gibraltar and to Morocco for a tense and dangerous climax to the story.

The headstrong and impetuous Annika seems to generate trouble. But in this episode we do see her doing some cogitating.

This story, while OK, has a few holes and coincidences in it. There is a convenient Swedish policeman there, a chap that is good for a tryst. He conveniently falls out of the action just when a good cop would be roaring ahead. Annika's ex-husband shows up briefly. There is some comic relief with a temporary photographer.

Although not bad, the movie is on the non-involving side and this is despite the fact that Annika is taking a humane interest in the missing girl and acting quite courageously at times. It seems that Malin Crepin needs to express more emotion or fluidity in her features. We are getting a little too much of one expression. Perhaps a tight shooting schedule is preventing her from exhibiting the reactions and character more fully. Doing 6 movies in a year is asking a lot of any actress.
