20 August 2015 11:18 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

IFC Films has landed distribution rights to Jake Hoffman’s directorial debut, “Asthma.”

Written and directed by Hoffman, the pic stars Benedict Samuel and Krysten Ritter alongside Nick Nolte, Rosanna Arquette, Goran Visnjic, Dov Tiefenbach, Rene Ricard and Iggy Pop.

The film follows Gus, who is suffocating in life both figuratively and literally because of his asthma attacks. Gus only sees hope in Ruby, a confident tattoo artist. The two take an impromptu trip out of the city in a stolen classic convertible, and Ruby warns him not to fall in love with her, but that’s easier said than done.

Hoffman, Tracey Baird and Missy Papageorge are producing. IFC will release the pic on Oct. 23.

Hoffman, the son of Dustin Hoffman, is better known for his acting credits in such films as “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “She’s Funny That Way” and “Enter the Dangerous Mind.” He is repped by Wme. »

Exclusive: Thomas Dekker Talks Stepping into the Claustrophobic Chamber for Fear Clinic

20 February 2015 8:59 AM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

From the Laid to Rest films to Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Thomas Dekker has played a plethora of memorable roles in the horror and sci-fi genres. His performance in Robert Hall’s Fear Clinic is no exception—in his third collaboration with director Hall, Dekker turns in a fascinating performance as Blake, a young man suffering from brain damage and Ptsd after surviving a madman’s public shooting spree.

With Fear Clinic now available on Blu-ray and DVD from Anchor Bay, we caught up with the Dekker to discuss bringing Blake to life in non-vocal ways, his character’s chilling backstory, working with the legendary Robert Englund, facing his own fear during filming, and much more.

What were the challenges of realistically portraying a character with brain damage and Ptsd? Did digging into that role require any in-depth research?

Thomas Dekker: I have to give a lot of credit to Rob Hall. »

Good day, horror fans. Not much out there is scarier than seeing a giant sci-fi movie (Jupiter Ascending) and a giant fantasy movie (Seventh Son) getting their asses handed to them in the box office by SpongeBob SquarePants. Long live genre efforts! The only thing resembling horror hitting limited theaters and VOD this week is the dubstep-infused psychological thriller Enter the Dangerous Mind. Pop some molly and get on that. In smaller news, it.s been rumored that Nicolas Winding Refn.s The Neon Demon is a film about voodoo and cannibal supermodels, so yay! Oculus director Mike Flanagan.s next film Somnia will hit theaters on May 8th, and Image Entertainment acquired Joe Dante.s Burying the Ex for release this summer. Amanda Seyfried and Theo James signed on for the supernatural thriller Black Lung. And The Guest.s Adam Wingard is reteaming with writer Simon Barrett for a »

Hayden Christensen And Nicolas Cage Soldier ‘Outcast’ To A Limited Weekend Bow: Specialty Preview

5 February 2015 5:34 PM, PST | Deadline | See recent Deadline news »

The weekend is chalk full of new Specialty releases, though most will likely be low performers in terms of dollars at the box office. Entertainment One is opening Nicolas Cage and Hayden Christensen starrer Outcast with limited runs and will likely find tepid returns at the theatrical box office, though it may shine in the digital/on-demand space where it will also bow this weekend. Documentary Ballet 422 (Magnolia Pictures), meanwhile, has had solid buzz heading into the weekend and should score well in its niche market. Monterey Media is hoping to have traction with stars Wes Bentley, Vincent Piazza and Amber Tamblyn as it opens 3 Nights In The Desert in theaters and on-demand, while Freestyle Releasing is targeting the rom-com crowd for its debut, One Small Hitch. Other Specialty openers this weekend include First Run Features’ doc The Other Man: F.W. de Klerk And The End Of Apartheid In South Africa, »

Repetitive Thriller Enter the Dangerous Mind Has Too Many Rote Beats Per Minute

3 February 2015 9:00 PM, PST | Village Voice | See recent Village Voice news »

As indicated by its title's weak quasi-pun, Enter the Dangerous Mind riffs on the ubiquitous musical form Edm (a/k/a electronic dance music) as popularized by the likes of Skrillex and David Guetta. Yet it quickly becomes clear that the genre is being used by co-directors Youssef Delara and Victor Teran as little more than a trendy hook upon which to hang a narratively repetitive thriller suffused with movie-psycho clichés. A wild-eyed yet nondescript Jake Hoffman (Dustin's son) stars as Jim, a twitchy, reclusive beatmaker saddled with a Tyler Durden–esque imaginary buddy (Thomas Dekker) who pumps crassly misogynist invective into his ear. Jim briefly finds succor in a potential relationship with an inexplicably supportive social-work student (Nikki Reed), b »
