At this year's ISAs, Darbo is nominated for her work in three separate web series: Indoor Boys, The Bay and Ladies of the Lake. In an Indie Series Awards first, she will compete against herself in the Best Guest Actress - Drama category.
The ISAs celebrate the best in independently produced entertainment created for the Web.
Ladies of the Lake leads all series with 18 total nominations, followed by 16 for The Bay. Those shows will compete in the Best Drama Series category with Anacostia, Giants, L.A. Macabre, Riley Parra, Running With Violet and Teenagers.
Filth City leads all comedies with 12 nominations. The series is joined in the Best Comedy Series field by 190 Lorimer,
The project is described as a soapy drama set against the backdrop of a Miami Beach hotel. It will center around the family who owns the business, the staff who run it, and the explosive secrets they hide under the perfect exterior. It is based on the Spanish series “Gran Hotel.”

Deadline reports that the Mexico-born writer is developing a show titled Brujas that centers around the Bruja movement in Chicago, following four Afro-Latinas. The series is being produced by Big Beach, an independent production company responsible for films such as Little Miss Sunshine and Our Idiot Brother.

Currently untitled, one project centers on four female friends in La. Emily Fox (“Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce”) penned the script, and both she and Longoria are among the show’s exec producers. The series’ protagonists are professionally successful but find their lives lacking. “They all enjoy the many perks of their high-flying lifestyles — but there’s no such thing as having it all, at least not all at the same time. Each of them has made significant sacrifices to get where they are,” the source summarizes. “When a face from their past resurfaces in the pilot, they have to confront some ugly buried secrets and protect their lives from being destroyed.”

Playwright and TV scribe Tanya Saracho has a new project in the works. She’s tapped to serve as showrunner on “Brujas,” a series being developed by indie producer and financer Big Beach. Deadline reports that the series centers on four Chicago-based Afro-Caribbean/Latinx women and explores “the relationships and community born out of the growing identification with the Bruja movement.”
According to the source, “Brujas” will “use the brujería counter-culture as a foundation. The brujería culture is a means for Latinx feminists to reconnect with their heritage through music, style, nightlife, and art. It’s a powerful return to indigenous practices and a reclamation of feminine strength.”
Saracho will pen the series and serve as an exec producer.
“Obviously I’m obsessed with women and Latina women,” Saracho has said of the themes in her writing. “I think I’m on my seventh or eighth all-Latina play.
Season 2 of the rebooted Norman Lear sitcom will premiere on Friday, Jan. 26, the network announced Thursday with a video of the show’s cast recreating the original series’ opening credits.
