Bret screwed Bret.
13 January 2017 | by (victoria b.c canada) – See all my reviews

Live from Cornwall, Ontario, Canada

Apparently, Ken Shamrock pinned Shawn Michaels with a roll-up with Commissioner, Slaughter counting the three.

Steve Austin starts the show to an anemic pop for his standards. He asks the crowd for a hell yeah if they wanna see Rocky Maivia get his ass whipped. Some chant it, but not a lot. This crowd is dead. Austin challenges Rocky and The Nation to come out and fight him. The Nation runs out. Austin stuns Kama, but Rocky Maivia comes in and steals The Intercontinental Title. Austin taunts Jim Ross a bit as well.

Jerry 'The King' Lawler Vs Marc Mero (W/Sable) Man, when even Lawler can't get much heat, you know the crowd is dead. Lawler wins by DQ after Sable interferes. Brian Christopher was hitting on Sable throughout the match.

This was god awful. Nothing but jab, jab, jab from Mero and slow- moving offense from Lawler.

DUD

Sit-down Interview with Jim Ross and Vince McMahon, regarding the Montreal Screwjob. Vince is sporting a black eye from when Bret him. JR asks if Vince screwed Bret. Vince says Bret Hart screwed Bret Hart. Vince says he always takes responsibility for his actions and when he makes a bad choice, he always does his best to make amends and say he's sorry. He says Bret needed to show more respect at who made him. Vince says Bret leaving was a joint decision. They agreed to let Bret go to WCW. Vince said Bret's salary wasn't justified. He claims Bret said Shawn Michaels had stolen his spot as top dog. Vince said he was the very first person to congratulate Bret on his WCW deal. He said he didn't wanna lose Bret. Vince said he was disappointed in Bret when Bret hit him. Vince says he sustained a concussion and has vision problems. Vince says things may have been different with Bret if they were confrontational. Wow. That's pretty brazen. Vince says he allowed Bret to strike him and he wishes they could have worked things out. He says he won't pursue legal action. Vince keeps it kayfabe near the end. Vince says he has no sympathy for Bret. Bret made a selfish choice and that Bret screwed Bret.

The New Age Outlaws Vs Los Boricuas

The Outlaws steal The Boricuas stuff. The match barely gets under way before Jose and Jesus get involved.

Kane interrupts a midget match. He destroys The Headbangers. The only cool thing about this was seeing Sunny in a referee outfit.

Degeneration X starts the second hour. Shawn says DX respects nobody. He says he ran Bret Hart out of town and he's beaten all Bret's family. Triple H calls out Sgt. Slaughter. He claims Slaughter's wife isn't too thrilled with her privates. Triple H makes some corny dick jokes and threatens to steal his wife. Slaughter decks Triple H, but DX commences an assault on him, which leads to a pedigree from Triple H. They wrap him in toilet paper to add insult to injury.

Scott Taylor Vs Eric Shelley

Taylor wins with a mid-air DDT from the top. This was OK. The announcers paid more attention to a phone call from Jeff Jarrett than the match itself.

*1/2 out of 5

Marc Mero says Sable is being stalked by Butterbean. Mero says he doesn't want Butterbean or the fans looking at Sable. This starts a mild Sable chant. Sable brings Butterbean to the ring. He calls him a fat-ass and says he'll knock Butterbean out. Butterbean shoves Mero.

We get part 2 of why Bret left the WWF. Jim Ross asks if Vince would bring Bret back to the WWF. He says if Bret apologized, he'd allow him back into the WWF and Vince would apologize as well. He says he's proud he helped Bret sell out. He says Bret souled out and that Bret lost credibility when he says it wasn't for the money. He says he regrets how it all went down and apologizes to Bret's fans, but insists he made the right decision. JR asks Vince what he'd say to Bret. Vince says he'd tell Bret that he made a mistake. He says a 14 year relationship was destroyed because Bret forgot where he came from. He says he'll remember the good times he had with Bret and he'll remember him as the Excellence of Execution. He says it's a shame that Bret didn't live up to his "Best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be" moniker. Vader Vs Goldust

The match doesn't take place because Goldust's arm is in a sling. He nails Vader with a wrench when Vader isn't looking. This was alright. It helped further Goldust's upcoming "The Artist formerly Known as Goldust" gimmick.

We get a "WWF Attitude" Steve Austin promo. "Sportsmanship? What a load of crap. Don't preach your morality to me. Steve Austin doesn't have any compassion. You want mercy? Take your ass to Church"

Slaughter says being named the Commissioner wasn't easy. He says when he made a decision the fans liked, they cheered him. When he made a decision the fans didn't like, they booed him. He says Jim Ross said he was drunk with power, but he did his job and he did it well. He says HHH crossed the line. He calls Triple H a scum, a slime, and a maggot. He says he will face Triple H at In Your House: Degeneration X.

Rocky Maivia Vs Dude Love Rocky has the Intercontinental belt that he stole from Austin in the opening segment. Dude Love has the match won, but The Nation interferes. Steve Austin runs out and makes the save. They were stalling for time until Austin came out. Wasn't a bad match, they were just killing time.
