Storyline

In an on-going case, Reese accompanies Carter when mob boss and Elias' father Gianni Moretti is released from prison. Carter wants to offer Moretti police protection as they are all aware that Elias is out to kill him. Regardless, Finch has another number in hand, the number only issued two months earlier to a Leila Smith. He surmises that Leila is either a recent immigrant or obtained the number through identity fraud. Finch is wrong on both counts: Leila is a six-month old safe haven baby whose parents are unknown, and who obtained her social security number through one of the attending nurses at the medical clinic where she is currently residing. That nurse wanted Leila to have an identity despite her situation. Reese and Finch track down who they believe is Leila's single mother, but the identity of the father requires further investigation. They believe the father has to do with recent sizable donations to the medical clinic, which they learn was made by Petrosian Construction, a... Written by Huggo

Quotes

Nurse Abbott: Leila's a safe-haven baby. Dr. Adalian himself found her outside the clinic.
Harold Finch: So who applied for her social security number?
Nurse Abbott: That was me. I wanted to be sure the state knew who Leila was, even if her own parents didn't care. Normally she'd be given up for adoption by now, but she had medical issues like her bronchitis. She'll find a home soon.
Harold Finch: Thank you, nurse.
[Nurse leaves. Harold looks at the baby, the most recent number]
Harold Finch: Hello, Leila. Now who in the world would want to hurt you?

Great episode
10 March 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This was one of the best episodes of the series, really great television. It was complex, with two main story lines and a half a dozen or more sub-plots, all smoothly interwoven. Twists and turns. Great pacing. Exciting but not crowded or rushed. A baby is kidnapped, and more or less unrelated to that, a crime boss is released from prison, and his life is threatened. I won't say more, except that every character in the episode is tested and strained almost to the breaking point. It was great to see a wider range of emotions than usual in the two male leads, Caviezal and Emerson. Just a great script. I'm going to follow the writer's credits and look for more that he or she has done. And, as a Veronica Mars fan, it's great to see Enrico Colantoni in this.
