A soulless and rushed DLC trap
residentgrigo21 March 2020
The game is a joyless mess and a DLC trap on top so I can´t say that I have a problem with it being non-canon, with it shattering the otherwise equally mediocre studio after release and it also averaging out between 48% to 52% on MC. Those scores are spot-on. 360 Gears games were fun and looked great. Dito for RE5. This wasn´t and the story/presentation is pure trash. Birkin, Leon, Nemesis and even the zombies were butchered so hard.

The game´s director went on a RE podcast and talker about it for 3 hours in November 2019: Survival Horror Podcast #23 Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City Director Andrew Santos Can´t say that I feel sorry after him endlessly going on how the press rated the game "wrong" as it was equally shrugged off by the overall RE community. It still sold 2.5 mil but Capcom clearly wasn´t happy and this was one of the reasons the outsourcing went away. Good. The interview´s insights into the production's breakdown were interesting. It started off as a sort of remake RE2/3 that was about filling the gaps. Well, it wasn´t. The director also revealed that the mostly DLC character Dee-Ay couldn't be gay due to Capcom coming down on that and he further confirmed that the DLC was cut out of the main and reworked into something worse as the good and bad teams were supposed to come to a head in the finales and they don´t. The game even misses a proper ending. It just stops.

The overall average Revelations 1 and RE6 from around the same time have some good points so I can forgive them to some degree. This I won´t. Overall an incompetent rush-job. A 5/10, if we count all the DLC as part of the game and a 4/10 without it. Especially if played in single-player. No wonder Capcom can´t be bothered with a remaster.

Umbrella apparently doesn't have the highest standards of quality
Pepe-arbiter11 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The concept of playing as Umbrella soldiers trying to retrace the steps of the classic heroes of the series in Raccoon City, destroying evidence, and at times encountering them in a fun "what if" scenario, is quite appealing. The game struggles in execution, despite being trained mercenaries you are insanely week and underpowered, mainly due to the fact the enemy soldiers are pure bullet-sponges. It takes sometimes an entire clip or two to put down an enemy soldier, and the zombies are best killed through melee since bullets shockingly aren't super effective against them either. The whole concept of "your actions changing the course of resident evil history" as the developers sold the game on is kinda misleading, the only time where the player is offered the chance to rewrite history is literally at the end of the game and it's pretty much like a cage match of "get ready to rumble!". A very disappointing showing from this legendary franchise, even for a spinoff.

There are to many zombies running after you, special ops guys too You have to get some EMP on generators at some point, when you enable to generator a lot of special ops guys come out in front of you and bang you are dead that simple, i got passed 2 and on my way to the third one i died, amazing i am playing on casual and dying like that, this is not fun, when you buy a video game you expect to have fun playing it when frustrating sets him the fun is gone.

I hate this game and if resident evil 6 is like that its a no buy for me for sure. This game blows

Welcome To Raccoon City
Terryfan28 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Now for starters this is not your normal Survival Horror game but it does take place during the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

The game is a squad based game like Metal of Honor where you take on the role of the Wolfpack Delta Squad the USS you get six members to chose from Lupo, Vector, Beltway, Spectre, Bertha, and Four Eyes.

There is also a Download Content where you can play as Spec Ops known as Echo Six, this team are the good guys in this one where they help out Jill Valentine and Carlos along with Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy. Echo Six is the team of Crispin Jettingham Code name: Dee- Ay, Caroline Floyd Code name: Willow, Marissa Ronson Code Name: Tweed, Sienna Fowler Code Name: Party Girl, Erez Morris Code Name: Harley, Lawrence Kimbala Code Name: Shona.

The game also features Resident Evil Game legends Jill Valentine, HUNK, Carlos, Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield and Ada Wong.

The plot centers around the USS Delta Squad Wolfpack team trying to prevent any information about Umbrella's ordeal during the outbreak of Raccoon City. As the plot advances you will be seeing many enemies from the series as the Zombies, Lickers, Tyrant and Nemesis all appear in this game. Along with facing many challenges and puzzles you must also collect all data and destroy files that link Umbrella to Raccoon City.

As well as taking on the Echo Six soldiers send in to stop you.

But there are some issues with the game mostly the enemies are not easy to take down you have to be smarter then they are and you got to kick your gaming sense into high gear because the enemies like the Tyrant and Nemesis are no walk in the park.

The Controls are a little tight as well where you have to learn fast or be a Resident Evil fan to know the controls. But it not all bad the controls do work this game requests you to be on alert.

The graphics in the game are pretty well done, the character models are very good the creatures are also what you would expect in a Resident Evil game dark and evil.

The Level designs are dark and the lighting gives you the feeling of being surrounded by danger all the time and you never know when a creature is going to come up and attack you so be on alert all times.

The music in the game is chilling and very well thought out where you feel where the game story is going. The voice acting is very good despite what some may say they did actually a good job with the voice acting.

For a game that cause me only two dollars I say I had some fun with it despite the issues of the plot and game play which is not all bad.

Yes as a resident Evil fan I did have some complains about the game but it is not really a bad game it just one of those games you like or want to avoid.

I mean there are some features to the game that make it worth your while you just have to take the time to play it to understand it.

Overall if you're a fan of Resident Evil you might want to give it a try and it is not as bad as others make it out to be it's one of those games you have to try for yourself. There are references to Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis that makes it more than what others make it out to be. There is something to make it worth a rental.

I give Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City an 7 out of 10

Another angle to Raccoon City incidence
Turricanmachine24 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
First after playing RE2 RE3 RE4 RE5 and RE6 this game feels different. Camera angle is the same as in RE4 and RE5 and RE6. And the story. First you play most of the time villain who tries to hide evidence of the outbreak. Controls are also different. There are lot different characters to choose from and best thing is that each level you can change the character you play. Who always play as a team so that difference from most RE games. This game tries to explain what happened elsewhere compare between RE2 and RE3. There are lot of familiar characters like Leon Jill and Nicholai. But tell you the truth some plot twists didn't feel right. I felt some plots just didn't work. Like Leon or Jill.

Fighting is different compare to other Resident evil games. It's more intense and this time you actually fight not only zombies but humans too. Fighting humans was actually something I always wanted from Resident evil games in some extent. In RE games there are of course human enemies but you don't get to fight them before they turn into some kind of bio freaks. Difficulty? I felt casual and normal are too easy so if you want a challenge choose either veteran or professional.

Overall I feel this game is good extra to the Franchise. I certainly liked this better than RE6. I felt the story tried to explain too much. I also feel Raccoon City has been explored too much already and RE Franchise should move on.

Lots of complaining...
Dr_Wesker12 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
WARNING. POSSIBLE SPOILERS CONTAINED IN THE FOLLOWING REVIEW.

And perhaps it ISN'T the best RE title to date. But it's non- canon and the story line is awesome. As a part of The Wolf Pack AKA Delta Team of the U.S.S. you can be either Vector -- Stealth--, Beltway --Demolition--, Lupo --Leader--, Specter -Elec Ex.--, Bertha -- Medic--, or Four Eyes --Scientist--. I recommend either Vector or Bertha they have the coolest moves and are my favorites.

Sure, it's more of a shooter than a survival horror game now, but it's STILL survival. You are fighting not only the usual B.O.W.'s and t/g-carrier... but humans as well. Hell, in RE2 there were no V-ACTs --Crimson Heads-- running around in the streets. Those alone count for survival points. Hunters and other creatures make a return cameo too.

And, come on, it's interesting. For once we get to be on Umbrella's side and see how they perceived things. Normally we're the good guys --Chris, Jill, Leon, Claire, etc.-- except in the mini games like Mercenaries where we can be bad-a**es like HUNK and Ada or Wesker. --Not saying Chris and the other's aren't bad-a**, they're merely more limited because they're good guys.--

My point is this: If you're looking for a game for PS3/Xbox 360 that's a more better graphics and moves version of RE2 you're in the wrong place. But if you want to see how things went on Umbrella's end of the fight and what all could have been going on behind the scenes while we were running through the sewers or streets trying to get out of the city alive, you've come to the right place.

The graphics are good, the characters to choose from are interesting, and you get to cover up Umbrella's dirty little secrets and fix their messes while blowing sh** up and killing as many U.S. Gov. people/infected/B.O.W.s as you can along the way. I'd say that qualifies for a fun few hours.
