I always look forward to both the BAFTA television and film awards, but the film awards are definitely my favourite ceremony, especially if I have seen the films nominated, so I can hope certain ones win. Hosted by Stephen Fry, with voice overs by Claudia Winkleman, 2012 saw some great films nominated and winning the famous golden mask award, in all the categories: Best Film, Best British Film, Best Leading Actor, Best Leading Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay, Best Music, Best Animated Film, the Fellowship award, Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Editing, Best Film not in the English Language, Best Makeup & Hair, Best Production Design, Best Rising Star, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Short Film and Best Short Animation. Films nominated and winning in this year included: The Artist, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, Arthur Christmas, Attack the Block, Beginners, Bridesmaids, Coriolanus, The Descendants, Drive, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Guard, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, The Help, Hugo, The Ides of March, The Iron Lady, Jane Eyre, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, My Week with Marilyn, Rango, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Senna, Shame, Submarine, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Tyrannosaur, War Horse and We Need to Talk About Kevin. It also included a tribute to all the filmmakers and stars who had passed away in the last year, including Jane Russell, Ken Russell, Bubba Smith, Nicol Williamson and Dame Elizabeth Taylor. Stars seen at the ceremony, and nominated or winning, included Kenneth Branagh, Jim Broadbent, George Clooney, Viola Davis, Adam Deacon, Jean Dujardin, Michel Hazanavicius, Jonah Hill, John Hurt, Carey Mulligan, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Martin Scorsese, Octavia Spencer and Maryl Streep. Very good!
