This movie can be a cult classic, but perhaps sooner overseas rather than in the States. I see there are some negative reviews, and one cannot please everybody, but as someone mentioned here this film must appeal to particular audience, and I'll agree.
There's something of a subculture in it, something from a comic book, plenty of well-pronounced characters and stereotype dialog. I think the latter in a way is being acknowledged and even celebrated. I like to see Glover in this film, an unorthodox actor whose cast only confirms my idea of the movie being a sort of a response to the conformism.
I can say that there's an element of transgression -- some scenes may violate an average person's morale -- but cinema, after all, is an art form... I won't talk much about this movie, go see it for yourself. I have a suspicion it will be big in Japan, those weird Japanese people with impeccable sense of style and taste for elaborate violence will appreciate the effort.
