Fox 2014-15 Season Ratings (updated 4/1/15)

just now | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

A few years ago, Fox had some of the top-rated TV shows on the air. Now, the network is struggling. Which series will be cancelled and which will be renewed? Stay tuned.

How do the execs decide what to cancel or keep? They look at a lot of different factors but the ratings play a very large role. The higher the ratings, the better chances a show has of surviving.

Fox shows this season (so far): American Idol, Backstrom, Bob's Burgers, Bones, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Empire, Family Guy, The Following, Glee, Gotham, Gracepoint, Hell's Kitchen, The Last Man on Earth, MasterChef Junior, The Mindy Project, Mulaney, Red Band Society, New Girl, The Simpsons, Sleepy Hollow, Utopia, and Weird Loners.

‘New Girl’ Renewed For Season 5 By Fox

23 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Fox has given New Girl a fifth-season pickup. The network’s longest-running comedy joins Brooklyn Nine-Nine on the list of live-action comedy renewals. Newbie The Last Man On Earth also looks hopeful, with The Mindy Project very much on the bubble. "Four seasons in, New Girl continues to be one of the smartest and most relatable comedies on television," said Fox Entertainment President David Madden. "The writing is razor-sharp, the ensemble is consistently hilarious, and… »

Fox renews 'New Girl' for fifth season

23 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Fox has renewed "New Girl" for a fifth season. That upcoming season will include the Zooey Deschanel comedy's 100th episode, and since "New Girl" comes from Fox's sister studio (as opposed to, say, "The Mindy Project," which is produced by NBC Universal), the network has incentive to keep it around even though its live ratings have become fairly modest. Damon Wayans Jr. will be leaving the show at the end of this season, but the other castmembers will be sticking around. After being in repeats for most of this month, the show's back with a new episode tonight at 9 guest-starring NFL defensive superstar J.J. Watt. I haven't written much about "New Girl" this season, but I've been enjoying most of it. What does everybody else think? Are you happy Jess and her friends are sticking around? And how have you felt about this season overall? »

The Performer | Andrew Lincoln

The Show | The Walking Dead

The Episode | “Try” (March 22, 2015)

The Performance | We always knew that Lincoln could play the living daylights out of anything that was thrown at him. But until this week’s episode of The Walking Dead, we didn’t realize that he could act his way from A to Z all within the span of a single hour.

Talk about a revelation! Early on in “Try,” the native of London revealed his character’s sweet, sensitive side during his interaction with (forbidden) love interest Jessie. »

1 | It shouldn’t surprise us by now, but wasn’t it a bit icky to see Glee‘s Mr. Schuester so thoroughly enjoying Artie’s highly sexual audition song? And didn’t you expect Rachel to acknowledge Finn in some form while accepting her Tony?

SundanceTV announces premiere date for ‘Behind the Story with the Paley Center’

As television shows have grown in critical and commercial success over the years, interest in what goes on behind the scenes has also grown. The evolution of television and the current landscape allows for a particularly fascinating look at the creative process that brings a show to fruition and shapes it as it’s on the air. Behind the Story with the Paley Center promises to do just that, and now SundanceTV has announced that the series will make its premiere on April 7th, at 8 pm Et.

Curated from footage shot from the 2013 and 2014 incarnations of PaleyFest, an annual television convention held by the Paley Center for Media, the show will sit down with performers and crew members to discuss the process behind bringing popular shows to the air. SundanceTV President Sarah Barnett had this to say:

Chris Messina on Making His Directorial Debut and The Mindy Project's Unsure Future

25 March 2015 12:10 PM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Tuesday night's Mindy Project finale, with its grand romantic gesture, left us wondering if this could perhaps be the end. (Say it ain't so!) Not only that, but Mindy stars are already off doing other things — take Chris Messina, who is making his directorial debut with Alex of Venice (in theaters and VOD on April 17), a sweet indie drama that stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a young working mom whose family is thrown for a loop after her husband (played by Messina) decides to leave. We spoke to Messina about doing triple duty, being a first-time director, and the future of The Mindy Project. You’re out in L.A., right?I’m in L.A., where it’s very sunny. Sorry. It’s always nice there. While I was watching Alex of Venice, I kept dreaming of Venice, California. It’s so kooky and great. Yeah, it’s a great place. »

Making the Case for Renewal: The Mindy Project

25 March 2015 11:46 AM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

The Mindy Project capped off its very strong third season last night with a fantastic finale (check out my colleague Jen’s review of the episode right here) that, once again, illustrated how much Danny and Mindy love each other but also showed the very real differences between the two of them, types of differences that could have potentially led to a break-up for one of TV’s best couples. Fortunately, Mindy Kaling is a great writer that not only loves and understands the basic format of the romantic comedy but also knows these two characters better than anybody else, so when Danny told Mindy he was going to Austin for Peter’s wedding, only to really fly to India to meet her parents, his actions felt real and honest, despite how grand and cinematic they actually were. It’s that perfect blend of real life emotion and romantic fantasy that makes The Mindy… »

As midseason replacements and limited event series continue to populate the primetime lineup, last night saw an ending of sorts. With a pregnancy and a declaration of love, The Mindy Project (0.8/3) wrapped up its third season. Ratings: NBC’s Full Lineup Slips 23 Percent, Allowing CBS to Slide Into First Place

25 March 2015 9:02 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

CBS edged a down NBC to finish first in the advertiser-sought 18-49 demographic; America’s most-watched network also topped total viewers on Tuesday. NBC’s entire lineup dropped by double-digits week-over-week, netting in a 23 percent slide. That said, the lower-rated “Night Shift” took “Chicago Fire’s” normal slot last night, and the network had two premieres during the prior Tuesday’s primetime. Sixth-place CW had a dramatic fall from last week, when the network rose to second in the key demo. Also of note, fifth-place Fox’s “The Mindy Project” hit a new low. Don’t Let This Be It for The Mindy Project

25 March 2015 8:56 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Today's TV-anxiety vibes come from the fear that last night's Mindy Project season finale will wind up being the show's series finale. The ratings are not good enough to guarantee renewal, and we all know life is fundamentally just suffering; a fourth season is merely a maybe at this point. If this is it for Mindy, I will be crushed. Not just because I love the show, and not just because the character of Mindy Lahiri has the wardrobe I most aspire to of any character who has ever been on television ever. The Mindy Project is a rom-com. And this is not how a rom-com ends.Rom-coms end with kissing, and credits set to "This Will Be (an Everlasting Love)." How can this show end before Rita Wilson guest-stars in some capacity? I like the idea of Danny's grand gesture, but not as much as I like the idea »
