Episode cast overview, first billed only:
Capt. Maria LaGuerta (as Lauren Velez)
Tyler Barnes

After Deb learns that she has sent forensic evidence to an outside lab for analysis, Captain LaGuerta confides in her that she found a blood slide at the site of the Marshall killing and believes the Bay Harbor butcher is still alive. The Captain accepts Deb's offers to help her in the investigation. When Dexter learns what's going on, he just wants Deb to stay out of it. Dexter finds blood on his boat and tests reveal it belongs to Louis Greene. He soon after finds he has to deal with Isaak Sirko who is clearly out for revenge. Dexter's plan to get him doesn't work out. Hannah McKay meanwhile has agreed to help find some of the bodies from her and her boyfriend's killing spree years ago. The remains of one of the victims tells him a lot about the assailant. Written by garykmcd

Protecting Dexter
26 July 2014 | by (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) – See all my reviews

Masuka finds that LaGuerta has sent a blood slide to an independent laboratory for analysis and asks Debra whether he is going to be fired. Debra calms him down and goes to LaGuerta's office that discloses that she believes that the Bay Harbor butcher is still alive. Debra offers to help her to cover Dexter, but when she tells to her brother, he unsuccessfully asks Debra to step back. While cleaning his boat for Harrison's return, Dexter finds vestiges of blood and soon he learns that it belongs to Louis. Then he discovers that the dangerous Isaak killed Louis and now is seeking revenge against him and the detectives of the Miami Metro for Viktor's death. Dexter warns Debra and protects her and he plots a plan to get rid of Isaak that does not work as planned. Dexter also discovers the truth about the involvement of Hannah McKay in the crime spree. Quinn surprisingly accepts bribery from the Koshka Brotherhood. Debra disappoints Angel to protect her brother and vanishes with a photo that would compromise Dexter in LaGuerta's investigation.

"Swim Deep" shows Debra still confused but protecting Dexter. Dexter stumbles with a powerful opponent, the Ukraine Isaak, but he finds means to satisfy Debra and put the guy aside. Hannah McKay is not innocent as she pretends to be, and now Dexter knows. Quinn disappoints the fans of this series, apparently accepting the bride in his car. My vote is eight.
