With dreams of being an inventor, opportunist and eccentric elf Bernard D. Elf is made to feel a fool yet again when his innovative creation to bring back people's favourite Christmas memories back to life fails miserably. However he is then presented with the perfect opportunity to prove his worth, when Santa is kidnapped by the evil Neville Baddington, and his demanding mother Vera, who have their heart set on discovering Santa's big secret: how he delivers presents across the world in just one night. However Bernard knows how he does it, using a time travelling device to ensure all children wake up on Christmas morning with their presents under the tree. The elf decides to use this to his advantage, as he plans on going back in time and preventing the abduction from ever happening, and save Santa - and Christmas - for the entire world. Did You Know?

Near the beginning of the film at around 01 mins, a small boy sings and writes a letter "To Santa". Clearly visible as the frame zooms in are specific phrases. Notably, the second paragraph showing "All human beings are..." "and endowed by"; showing texts like a modified version of The Declaration of Independence were used instead of an actual letter to Santa. See more »

nice animation, lovely characters, a plot not really new but , in same measure, not bad. a holiday animation, perfect for Christmas season, a little too complicated for children, not a revelation for adults, mixture not always decent by music and past travels but nice. as lesson about possibilities of a poor character, for adventures, for the nuances to old ingredients and for the fresh atmosphere who makes all a little different by well known movies about theme. Vera Bannington can be a version of Cruela and Neville Baddington another Captain Hook but the adorable Bernard and his fundamental change, the Santa who has virtue to not be only a classical image , the voices - Tim Curry is important part from long chain of convincing bad guy in animation remembering George Sanders as Shere Khan - makes this film nice and almost convincing pillar for the spirit of an unique event of year.
