Storyline

"My Other Me" is a documentary that chronicles a year in the life of three different cosplayers: a veteran cosplayer who launched her career from cosplay, a young fourteen-year-old-first-timer, and a transgender who found himself through the hobby of cosplay. The documentary will cover everything from each different cosplayer's home life, to their costume process, to their journey through the convention circuit, to the profound effect cosplay is having on each of their lives. This is a fascinating introduction to the cosplay universe. The people that are followed seemed willing to be candid, genuine, and unassuming. The two female leads are especially honest and sweet, as they muddle through their relationships, like any young 'un. The directing and editing is superb. The film has a classic documentary feel. There are some surprise elements that are very engaging and endearing. In all, it is the quintessential "coming of age" drama with a cool creative twist. In addition to the main characters, there are many fun costumes and unique people who put in two cents about cosplay. I will watch this over and over to pick up new elements the clever director included.
