I liked "The Date Night Variable" as the beginning of the new season of "The Big Bang Theory"
tavm25 November 2012
In this season premiere of "The Big Bang Theory": Howard is still up in space, arguing with his mom and then Bernadette about where to next live. It's Amy and Sheldon's second anniversary of being an official couple, a thought that fills Sheldon with dread. And Penny and Leonard are still awkward with each other since that time Leonard proposed to her in bed. So it looks like Raj will be by himself again but wait...Taking off where they were last season, I thought this was a good enough start for the new season especially whenever Raj says something in his drunken state. And that includes when he visits Stuart (as usual, Kevin Sussman who's now a regular) and they start bonding. So on that note, "The Date Night Variable" was a good enough start of this, the new season of "The Big Bang Theory".

Wimpiness to the Nth Degree

The issue most in doubt is Howard and his inability to tell her that he and his new bridge will be getting their own place. His work at the space station is constantly being interrupted by the two women. Back on Earth, Raj is making a pest of himself, butting in on the couples. Leonard continues to be a big baby. In the real world Penny should be done with his whiny crap.

Maybe the worst episode of the series so far...

This episode was like I was watching another show! So boring and unfunny that I couldn't believe it! Where is the charming and witty humour that was characteristic of the series till the 4th season? Even the mediocre 5th season was much better than this lame episode, which contained awkward, flat dialogues and the characters looked "numb", even Sheldon wasn't himself, but a rather lesser version of himself!

My opinion is that the second characters (Bernadette and Amy) should get less screen time. The quintet of Leonard, Penny, Sheldon, Howard and Raj produced all the crazy laughs until the 3rd season and the other people were just supporting, they should keep up with that. I hope that the writers will come to senses and remember the spirit of the series until the 4th season

Warning: Spoilers
The guys are jealous of Howard as he is in Space saying his life is different only to learn that his Mom can still call him in space. Back on earth Amy is getting her upper lip died by Penny. Penny and Leonard back together but it seems we do not know how their relationship is. Sheldon invites Raj to his date night with Amy which she may not like so well. Bernadette calls Howard and they talk about their living situation. Amy does not agree with why Sheldon borough Raj on her date with Sheldon which just proves how overly unlikeable Sheldon is. When Raj is told to go he comes over to another date to be the third wheel once again. Back in space Howard's mom calls to find out that Howard is moving out with Bernadette. Raj may be alone but he knows how to give some drunken man advice which helps get him out of the apartment. Sheldon and Amy date time but as soon as Amy leaves in anger Sheldon gives her a speech about she has changed him which is big and beautiful for his character even though he borrowed it from a movie. Then Raj makes his way to the comic book store and they way they were standing next to each other intrigues me about how the writers could develop their relationship. Another boring episode of the show and even the characters that usually make me laugh had nothing to do.

EPISODE GRADE: B- (MVP: Kunal Nayyar)
