Jungle Hunt = great arcade game, not so good Atari 2600 game.
I loved Jungle Hunt in the arcade, one of the proudest achievements ever was making it to the boulder stage in this one. Suffice to say, I was not a very good arcade game player. You started out in this vine swinging level, then you would progress to an alligator infested river, then came the boulders and finally you had to make your way past the angry villagers to save your girlfriend or whatever. When I had a chance to get this one on the Atari 2600 I of course got it! And like so many times after playing the arcade game, then playing it on the Atari I was disappointed. Very disappointed. The graphics are of course so bad, but it is also so much easier. Seriously, you could not even use this game to improve your arcade skills so one could progress further than ever thought imaginable. No, instead you get a vague representation of what the stuff looked like at the arcade and the things just are no where near as difficult to progress by. Then again, I do not think the arcade was that hard, it was just that I was an extremely young gamer at the time and just was not that good. This game was not very good on the Atari, but it was a fun coin eater.
