Exclusive Interview With Chad Rook On The Flash

6 October 2014 9:46 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

They say that a hero is only as good as his villain, and this year on The Flash, Barry Allen will truly be put to the test when he faces off with several members of his diverse rogues gallery. Many of the Rogues have already been announced to appear on the show, from Captain Cold to Heat Wave, as well as Captain Boomerang, Girder, the Pied Piper and even Gorilla Grodd.

First out the gate, however, is Mark Mardon, the supervillain known as Weather Wizard. As his name would suggest, Weather Wizard can control the weather and gave the Flash quite the challenge in the series opener. A formidable opponent and a fun foe to watch on screen, Weather Wizard was the first one to show Barry Allen that he wasn’t the only one given powerful abilities after the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator explosion.

10 Thoughts on the 'Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Premiere

2 October 2014 6:15 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

I saw the Season 6 premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" last week and you've perhaps already seen my post with a handful of teases courtesy of showrunner Caroline Dries, who did a Q&A with a few reporters afterwards. At the time, I held off on any spoilers beyond mentioning that just about everybody was handling the aftermath of last season's finale with varying degrees of sadness, self-hatred and mourning. Now maybe I can talk a bit more about the premiere, which I thought was more mired in the aftermath of the Season 5 finale than progressing the narrative in ways I wanted to see in upcoming episodes. I don't have time for a full review or recap, but after the break, I've got a handful of thoughts, all involving spoilers, obviously... *** So Bonnie & Damon are trapped in 1994? You may see the warm lighting and comfortable looking cabin and assume that Bonnie »

They Got the Steely Dan T-Shirts: The Debate Continues

25 September 2014 7:45 PM, PDT | www.culturecatch.com | See recent CultureCatch news »

As I mentioned in its introduction, my Steely Dan appreciation last week stemmed from an email exchange with several other people. And my article was not the last word by a long shot. One of the participants, Tony Alterman, is responding with his own album-by-album review, and his brother, CultureCatch's own Ian Alterman, is pitching in with his own observations. Here, with punctuation corrected and tangents omitted, is the origin of the debate and its continuation.

Tony Alterman:

Katy Lied -- Probably [Steely Dan's] fourth-best album, after Aja, Can't Buy a Thrill, and Royal Scam, in that order. Of course, fourth-best for Steely Dan is a bit like Beethoven's fourth-best symphony -- shades of difference here.

Ian:

Re: Steely Dan, it might be heresy, but I think Royal Scam is better than Aja. So my order would be Royal Scam, Aja, Can't Buy a Thrill, and then...well...it wouldn’t be Katy Lied. »

Star-Crossed’s Greg Finley cast as Girder in The Flash

20 August 2014 11:45 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Back at the start of this month it was revealed that the DC villain Tony Woodward – a.k.a. Girder – would be making an appearance in The CW’s Arrow spin-off The Flash, and now Zap2It is reporting that Greg Finley (Star-Crossed, The Secret Life of the American Teenager) has secured the role of the Rogue.

According to the site, the S.T.A.R. Labs explosion that sees Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) gaining his powers also results in Woodward finding himself “with the ability to transform his skin into living metal. In the guise of Girder, Tony then goes on a crime spree that only Barry Allen may be able to stop. The connection between the two men doesn’t stop there, however. Back when they were kids, Tony was the bully who used to torment Barry.”

Grant Gustin suits up in new countdown image for The Flash

17 August 2014 2:02 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

We’re now 52 days away from the premiere of The Flash on the CW, a number that’s very near and dear to the folks over at DC Comics. In fact, they named their gigantic company-wide relaunch in 2011 “The New 52.” To celebrate the occasion, The CW released a new official image of series star Grant Gustin in costume as the titular scarlet speedster on Twitter…

This is a great shot of the costume (much better than the first, poorly Photoshopped images we got a few months back), that shows off a nice, clean look at Gustin as Barry Allen, as well as some of the detail of the Flash suit. As you can see, despite a few small touches and a leather material, the design itself is pretty close to the iconic comic book design.

What do you think of this shot of Gustin as the Flash? Are you a fan of the costume? »

Another member of the Rogues set to appear in The Flash

6 August 2014 11:26 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The producers of the upcoming Arrow spin-off The Flash are wasting little time in building an impressive Rogues gallery for Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen, with TV Line reporting that episode six of the series will introduce Tony Woodward – a.k.a. Girder – as a recurring character.

In the comics, Girder was a steelworker who gained near invunerability after being exposed to S.T.A.R. Labs waste, while the series will depict him as a childhood bully of Barry’s and “a grinning lunkhead who loves destruction [and an] unstoppable force who can transmute any part of his body into solid steel.”

Girder is the third member of the DC villain team The Rogues to appear in The Flash, with Chad Rook (Cult) portraying Weather Wizard in the pilot and Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) set to appear as Captain Cold.

#SDCC14 Exclusive: WWE Superstar Dylan "Hornswoggle" Postl and Director Zach Lipovsky Talk Leprechaun: Origins

24 July 2014 4:03 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

During the Sdcc we had a chance to get the skinny on WWE's Leprechaun: Origins, starring WWE Supertstar Dylan "Hornswoggle" Postl. Read on for the scoop from Dylan and director Zach Lipovsky.

"For me the biggest and coolest challenge was that Leprechauns aren't something that people are generally frightened by," Lipovsky (pictured) tells us of the character and his idea for how the film should play out.

"We asked ourselves, can we do something that would be legitimately scary for people, and if so, what would that look like? Anything was on the table so that was really fun. It was fun to come on to the project and make it something that honors the mythology and is iconic and be totally fresh with our approach. We looked into making the origin story of a creature that maybe thousands of years ago the Celtics met in a cave or something that was really scary. »
