Under the multiyear overall pact, Dave Caplan will develop and produce unscripted programming through his Trooper Entertainment banner. Caplan joins Lionsgate TV from 51 Minds Entertainment, where he spent two years as VP Development and executive produced such series as Syfy’s Heroes Of Cosplay, MTV’s Scrubbing In, Syfy’s Ghost Mine and truTV’s Cash Dome. “Continued growth in the area of alternative programming is a high priority for our TV division and we are always looking for terrific partners,” said Lionsgate TV Group chairman Kevin Beggs. “Dave is an extremely creative producer and we anticipate a great collaboration.” Caplan’s move to Lionsgate comes on the heels of an executive restructuring at 51 Minds following the company CEO Cris Abrego’s appointment as co-chairman and co-ceo of parent Endemol North America that saw Christian Sarabia elevated to president of 51 Minds. When he's not trying to change America's attitude toward the virtues of a hard day's work with his "Profoundly Disconnected" initiative, former "Dirty Jobs" star Mike Rowe is busy lending his golden voice to a variety of reality shows, from "Wicked Tuna" and "Airplane Repo" to "Bering Sea Gold" and "Deadliest Catch."
"Deadliest" returns for its 10th season on Tuesday, April 22, so Rowe is hard at work in the recording booth narrating the adventures of the Bering Sea crab fleet.

You should eat a whale!" shouts Wicked Tuna's Dave Marciano across the table to rival Dave Carraro when I join the stars of one of NatGeo's highest-rated series for dinner in Gloucester, Massachusetts, where they're shooting Season 3. Why the advice? Captain Carraro doesn't eat seafood.
Even more bizarre than a fisherman refusing to eat fish is witnessing the cutthroat captains laughing amicably over clam chowder, sushi (veggie for Carraro) and steak. "You have five teams all wanting the same goal," says Carraro, Season 1's champ. "We can joke around and have a beer, but when you get on the water, things change." They'd better have an appetite for competition, since this season will see two new crews (in addition to the five returning teams) competing for what they call "monstahs," which can reel in $20,000 each.

National Geographic Channel has announced a spinoff program for its popular fishing program "Wicked Tuna." The working title is "Wicked Tuna: North vs. South" and will begin filming off the coast of North Carolina this winter, with a premiere scheduled for this summer.
Producer Craig Piligian tells the 2014 TCA press tour that the spinoff will be a competition between the guys of "Wicked Tuna" and the fishermen of the Outer Banks in the Carolinas -- but those Southerns ain't got nothin' on the "Wicked" captains.
"There will be a lot of tensions and a lot of guys saying some funny stuff," says Piligian. "They're decent fishermen, but not as good as these guys."

Exclusive: National Geographic Channel is building a franchise around one of its highest-rated series, Wicked Tuna. The cable network has greenlighted a spinoff series, Wicked Tuna: North vs. South (working title). Produced by Craig Piligian’s Pilgrim Studios, which is behind the original series, the spinoff will begin filming off the coast of the Outer Banks in North Carolina this winter and will premiere in the U.S. and globally this summer.
