Moving story of forgiveness
mark-woollard14 March 2021
The acting is great. The dialogue very believable--except for Manny's loveletter.

The younger brother is amazingly wise in matters of forgiveness. Offers a life lesson we can all learn from.

Excellent Movie
dcarroll7418 March 2021
For a movie with no known actors, writers or directors, at the time personally; this is a little gem. It took 8 years for me to become aware of this movie, and watch it, ironically on St. Patrick's Day 2021.

What a joy to watch, it was so comedic. Some viewers won't get the inside of the movie but, they will enjoy the overall. Only those born in Ireland, North and South, will get the humour, completely.

Slow and disappointing
gekko_05012 November 2023
Whoever gave this 10/10 is probably involed in the film, or related to someone that is.

It is watchable, but slow, and it has some odd editing. Im not actually sure if it's meant to be a light drama, or a boy comes home nostalgia with a touch of romance.

Unfortunately it hangs on the male lead Ciaran Mcmenamin, who is the least charismatic and charming member of the cast, if not all of Ireland, so he shouldn't really be a lead. Why any of the other characters would care that this piece of mahogany came home is beyond me. The rest of the cast are decent, but are unfortunately wasted on this film as a result.

It's not terrible, but there are much better uses of your time!

Funny heart warming tale set in Belfast.
mattwkerr21 January 2019
Thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The majority of the story is based in Belfast with some great local talent on show. It's about someone reuniting with his past but not against the backdrop of the troubles.

Very funny in places and enjoyable throughout.

Poor Acting and Storyline
dilsonbelper21 January 2020
A story should start well and set out an objective or perhaps keep the audience guessing. The set-up is exciting and interesting, This doesn't, it meanders through tediousness with cameos to enlighten the viewing simply doesn't work. but then what follows just becomes dull, long-winded or confusing.

Genuinely Funny and Heartwarming

Warning: Spoilers
After a slow start, this film wins you over with its depiction of love and friendship that's been neglected but not lost. It features some very good performances by actors that are not as well well known but should be appreciated. It's also surprisingly hip in its humor, referencing Cypress Hill among others.

There also a seems to be a kind of metaphorical undercurrent, considering the main character is someone who left Northern Ireland as perhaps many other did but feels, by the end of the film that he wants to return. From this perspective, the father who wronged the protagonist and his brother could represent Northern Ireland's troubled past.

Whether this metaphorical level is fully intended or not, the chemistry between the actors is unmistakable and the film very enjoyable overall.

A beautiful emotional film

Warning: Spoilers
I like the unwritten in this film The effects of the child abuse on two brothers and how they react to it as the father dies. The elder has his shirts tightly buttoned to the neck and has some OCD issues, as we observe his frequent hand washing and the meticulous desk he maintains as he writers.

Jack returns home after 8 years and he has left a trail of angry friends behind him when he publishes a novel of their peccadilloes.

His younger brother has made peace with the past and is very open when he speaks about his much older brother abandoning him as a teenager.

I like the easy familiarity of old friends when he finally gets caught up again with those left behind.

I found the hidden symbolism of the Northern Ireland "question" reflected in the troubled relationship with Jack's past. But there is also forgiveness there and he slowly changes, gripped again by all that unfinished business and the comradery that he realizes he misses more than he knew.

We can't run away. Ever.

Well done in a wonderful story beautifully told.

9/10.

Shauna Macdonald and Owen Mc Donnell are too good for this film

I love the actors mentioned in the above title, they have been in films I really admire them for, this film doesn't deserve them, I'm sorry...I gave up after 30 minutes of people talking about what happened back in the day, his father died might of been a compelling shift to the constant talking but that seemed to matter none to the protagonist, nothing really happens despite my hopes, the first couple minutes seemed kind of witty and promising...oh well.

I loved it

Warning: Spoilers
I happened across this when I clicked on my Acorn icon in Prime and it was the 2nd movie listed. It's a rainy Monday here in Texas, a perfect morning for an Irish movie.

I first saw Ciaran McMenamin on a Death in Paradise episode. His charisma and accent left me hoping to see him again and when the show Hope Street, which wasn't a great show but not bad came along, I enjoyed his role.

Glad to see he stars in this movie and seems to keep the flow going perfectly.

The supporting cast are all great in their roles and I hope I see them again in something. Forgiveness is so hard -you either can or you can't and I feel that many people can relate to this movie in some way.

I got that he couldn't forgive his father. Abuse leaves scars most of us couldn't imagine. That part of the movie was thankfully kept brief but it helped us understand why he left.

Give it a try, it's entertaining and made me laught and at the end - smile.
