Storyline

When Army Colonel Griff Carson returns home from Germany on a two-month leave, he considers retiring if he doesn't get promoted to General. Being away on deployment has been hard on Griff, separating him from his wife Janet and two teenagers, Kim and Ollie. With his kids growing up and his wife busy opening a second bakeshop with a slimy business partner, Griff suddenly feels he no longer fits into his own family. Hoping to give him a sense of duty, Janet assigns him to help run her quaint cupcake shop. At first reluctant, Griff starts to take a military approach to his new job, never expecting it to backfire. Soon the bakery is a war zone, and one final screw-up almost sends the place up in smoke. Frustrated, Janet threatens to cut him out of their lives for good if he can't adjust to civilian family life. Refusing to give up, Griff is determined to prove to his family he's ready to be a full-time father, or else face the lonely life of a solitary military man. Written by Anonymous

Goofs

At about the 1 hour 40 minute point, there is a little league batter up to bat, and there are frequent shots of the batter, and then of the crowd, and then back again. Well, each time, the soft baseball hat, under the batting helmet gets turned around, first it is towards the front, and then it is turned around backwards, and then it is turned back to the front again. This happens like 5 times in a row. See more »

Operation Cupcake Tastes So Good ****
24 June 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Off on a military leave while the army evaluates a possible promotion to general, a man returns to his family and immediately causes chaos in all their lives due to his regimented ways.

He thinks he is going to run his home as Captain Von Trapp did before meeting up with Fraulein Maria in "The Sound of Music."

He nearly wrecks his wife's business in producing cupcakes and interferes with his teenage children's lives. While this is done in comical fashion, the point is beautifully driven home that home and the military are totally two different ways of life.

Nice seeing an older Donna Pescow as a worker in the bakery who is able to finally get our military man to come to his senses. Pescow, though obviously is older now, is as perky as she was in the memorable "Saturday Night Fever" bridge scene or as Angie in that hit television show so many years ago.

This film really explores old traditional American values while showing a faithful wife. Though their marriage is strained by what he does, everything comes out sensibly in this well-done film.
