In the introduction to the level LGN Terminal Sam jumps from the Paladin with a rope tied inside the plane. This would be a very bad idea. The rope, if long enough to reach the ground would do nothing to slow your impact with the ground and, assuming you somehow survive the fall, you are still tied to the airplane which is going at least 250 KPH (155 MPH). This is the stall speed of planes this size. See more
