Even though we know where the characters ultimately end up, Bates Motel has done a pretty good job of being unpredictable in its debut season. For instance, I couldn’t have told you there at the outset that there would have been subplots involving human trafficking, marijuana fields and police corruption. Nor that Vera Farmiga would take complete control over the series, giving far more depth and nuance to Norma Bates than I ever thought possible. Why, it’s almost heartbreaking to think that one day she’ll be sitting in that rocking chair as her mummified corpse takes the blame for Norman’s [...]

It had to happen sooner or later: Norman Bates went full psycho in the "Bates Motel" Season 1 finale, "Midnight."
At least, we think he did. We didn't actually see the murder of Miss Watson (Keegan Connor Tracy), but we saw enough to draw our own conclusions: She brought Norman back to her house, went into her bedroom to change her clothes and Norman saw a vision of Norma scolding the teacher for being a very naughty woman. Norman slipped into one of his angry rages, and the next thing he knew he was running through the rainy streets trying to get home as soon as possible. With Norma arriving home from her almost equally eventful night out, the inseparable mother and son retire to their creepy cocoon of a house.
Now, the question is -- if Norman really did kill Miss Watson -- does he become a suspect? Or is »

Spoiler alert! Don’t keep reading unless you’ve seen the season finale of Bates Motel.
So that’s what Norman’s first kill looks like. Not his first first kill, mind you. That happened before the pilot — as far as we know, Norman attacking his father was his first homicidal break. But this was different: This was Norman being comforted by an older woman and then coerced by his “mother” into slashing her throat. That’s right: Our budding psycho offed sweet, pre-pedophiliac Miss Watson in Monday’s finale, which also included a shooting and a high school dance. »

Oh, "Bates Motel." You came so close to me being really excited with how strongly you concluded your first season on Monday (May 20) night. Yes, I've had reservations about "Bates Motel" from the very beginning. After four episodes, I was convinced I didn't like the show very much at all. I was fatigued by the human trafficking and the vast pot farms and the not-quite-"Twin Peaks" "This Is A Town With Secrets" clumsiness and the "If this isn't leading up to 'Psycho' why are you ripping off 'Psycho'?" iconoclasm. But as the weeks progressed, I found »

"There could be, but I won't go." One thing we can be certain of when it comes to Bates Motel? Norman (Freddie Highmore) isn't going anywhere! At least, that's what the star of the A&E breakout hit told us when we chatted with him about tonight's "shocking" finale, which "could" feature a death, Highmore teases. So what can fans expect from the finale? And will the season one mystery be resolved by the episode's end? "Jake Abernathy (Jere Burns) and that mystery is perhaps solved," Highmore previews. Ready or not, it's check-out time for "Bates Motel" Season 1. A&E's quirky thriller pulls back the curtain on its season finale, "Midnight," tonight and promises to reveal new information about the mysterious past of Norma Bates.
"You'll discover some things about Norma in the [finale] that'll make you jump," co-star Nestor Carbonell told us on the red carpet at the show's recent Paley Center event in Los Angeles.
Executive producer Kerry Ehrin confirms the finale contains a "little bit of everything" "Bates" fans have come to expect from the series: twists, turns, sex, violence, suspense and dark humor. And yes, a peek into Norma's past, "You'll learn a little more about Norma and what makes Norma Norma, in kind of a profound way," Ehrin says.
And how does Vera Farmiga -- whose brilliant portrayal of Norma has been the standout of a very fun first season -- feel about the revelations? »

You’ll want to watch till the very end of tonight’s season finale of Bates Motel (A&E, 10 p.m. Et). Freddie Highmore, who stars as a young Norman Bates, says the last moment is fun one. Wait. Correction: “I always use the word ‘fun’ to describe things in Bates Motel, and people on set are like, ‘No, no, you can’t say it’s ‘fun,’ it’s not fun at all,’” Highmore tells EW, laughing. “It’s not really a fun last scene in any way. But it’s intriguing.” All he’ll tease about the hour is »

If Emmy voters won’t come to Bates Motel, that’s okay — Bates Motel will come to them!
Universal TV, the production company behind A&E’s sublime Psycho prequel, has hatched a unique plan to draw attention to the series’ “performances worth braking for” — by plastering the mugs of leads Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore on the sides of a Starline tour bus that’ll roll through Hollywood and the West Side of L.A. How’s that for in-your-face promotion!

Currently wrapping up its first season and already given a second, the A&E drama series Bates Motel gives viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ (Freddie Highmore) psyche unravels through his teenage years. This contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film Psycho reveals the dark, twisted backstory and shows first-hand just how deep the relationship with his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga), truly goes, as she helps forge the most famous serial killer of them all. During this exclusive interview with Collider, co-stars Nicola Peltz (who plays Bradley, the beautiful teenager who Norman is in love with) and Olivia Cooke (who plays Emma, the quirky friend with a crush on Norman) talked about how they each came to the show, how familiar they’d been with Psycho, what they enjoy about their characters, how much input they have with their characters, and what made them each want to become actors. »
