Wrinkle in Time Gets Game of Thrones Composer

28 September 2017 6:11 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Disney's adaptation A Wrinkle in Time is shaping up to be one of next year's most highly-anticipated films, as fans wait for the next batch of footage following the first A Wrinkle in Time trailer that dropped at the D23 Expo back in July. There has been no confirmation as to when the next footage may arrive, but director Ava DuVernay just recently dropped an interesting piece of news on social media, confirming that Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi has come aboard to do the score. The director included a photo of herself alongside the composer in the editing bay, where fans can get a new glimpse of Storm Reid's pivotal character Meg Murry.

The director revealed on social media that she has "listened to his music for years and swooned," before confirming that he will compose the score for A Wrinkle in Time. It's possible that the »

The Emoji Movie: The Aftermath

28 September 2017 9:49 AM, PDT | CineMovie | See recent CineMovie news »

2017 has seen one more film added to the list of perplexing creations. Based on the cultural phenomenon formed by a humble social app, The Emoji Movie had great potential, if handled with original vision and wit. The plot is set in the city of Textopolis, where Gene, a multi-expressional emoji, heads out to become as normal as other emojis and their single expressions. Unfortunately, the enthusiasm that went into its development, such as casting award-winners James Corden (Into the Woods, 2014) and Ilana Glazer (Broad City, 2014-2018), as well as T.J. Miller (Silicon Valley, 2014-2017) and Anna Faris (I Give It a Year, 2013), was not enough to impress its more demanding audiences. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes pointed out, among other things, a weakness in taste, plot and purpose, apart from it being little more than a promotional tool. Even though the $179,535,817 global box office likely soothed Sony Pictures Animation’s wounded pride, »

Disney Gets Burned for Adding New White Character to Aladdin

7 September 2017 11:40 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Production has finally begun on Disney's live-action remake of Aladdin, which brought the excitement level up only to be taken back down when Disney announced that they had cast Billy Magnussen (Into the Woods) as a new character named Prince Anders, who was not originally in the 1992 animated movie. The move has been criticized by many who claim that Disney only added the character so that they could introduce a Caucasian actor into a movie where there are no other white people. The news comes after Disney was slammed for casting Naomi Scott in the part of Princess Jasmine because she is not from Arab descent, but instead British and Gujarati Indian, which many feel reinforces the stereotype that South Asian and Middle Eastern people are interchangeable.

Guy Richie's upcoming live-action remake of Aladdin is set to have a diverse cast, which is a relief to many, but the addition »

Why the New White Character in Disney's Live-Action Aladdin Is Infuriating Fans

7 September 2017 10:30 AM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Disney's live-action Aladdin reboot based on the 1992 animated film is facing another casting controversy. A few months after reportedly "struggling" to find an actor of color to play the title character (Egyptian-born Canadian actor Mena Massoud was later chosen), Disney has created a brand-new character to add to the beloved story: Prince Anders, played by Ingrid Goes West actor Billy Magnussen. Although Magnussen has some experience playing a prince - he appears as Rapunzel's royal love interest in 2014's Into the Woods - fans are understandably upset with the studio's decision. For many, the move feels like a way for Disney to shoehorn a white character into a story that's celebrated for predominantly featuring Middle Eastern characters. With all the added backlash from the previous casting scandal, which a lot of people still aren't happy about (Jasmine is being played by British actress Naomi Scott, who is of Indian instead »

A Disney press statement describes him as “a suitor from Skanland and potential husband for Princess Jasmine.” There were suitors in the animated movie, but they were bit comedic parts, while Magnussen gets prominent billing in Disney press materials for the movie.
