Definitive Documentary on Storied Environmental Group
headofjoaquin14 January 2014
EF!, the Politics of Radical Environmentalism, is the definitive documentary on the rise of the Earth First! movement from a small band of wilderness enthusiasts, to a force that reshaped mainstream environmentalism in the US. The film catches the flavor of heady possibility as the founders discuss their goals, their "deep ecology" philosophy, and their vision of a renewed wilderness legacy in America. The documentary has rare footage of ecoteurs plying their craft, something that later documentaries had difficulty obtaining due to the crackdown on Earth First! by law enforcement. In contrast, the critics from the resource industry and the mainline environmental groups also get to have their say. Though there is no doubt whose side the film maker prefers, the film lets the viewer decide which vision of the future is more in line with American values. Intelligent, entertaining, and an historical treasure trove for those who want to understand the modern environmentalism movement.
