Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson in new image from Kong: Skull Island

15 July 2016 11:45 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Ahead of its Comic-Con panel next week, Entertainment Weekly has debuted a new image from Kong: Skull Island which sees Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson among the skeletal remains of a rather large creature…

It’s previously been revealed that the the movie’s Kong will be around 100 foot tall, and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts elaborated on the scale of the creatures inhabiting Skull Island, stating that: “From the size of the skull, you can tell that things on this island are much bigger than audiences are used to with traditional Kong lore. Our Kong is by far the biggest Kong that you’ve seen on screen, and that translates to a lot of different things on the island. In terms of actual size, our Kong is by far the biggest Kong. Peter Jackson’s Kong was around 25 feet. King Kong will be 100 feet tall in Kong: Skull Island

26 June 2016 12:17 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Back in October of last year, Legendary Pictures announced that its upcoming Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla 2 movies would be followed in 2020 by the ultimate monster showdown in Godzilla vs. Kong.

Given the enormity of Godzilla in Gareth Edwards’ reboot, there had been some discussion as to how King Kong could stand up to the King of the Monsters, and now we have the answer thanks to Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts.

“This is going to be the biggest Kong there’s ever been,” Vogt-Roberts tells The Hollywood Reporter. Not 10 foot or 30 foot, but a 100-foot ape.”

In the 1933 version of King Kong, the great ape was described as being 50 feet tall, while he shrunk down for Peter Jackson’s remake, where he was said to be 25 feet in height. Still, Legendary’s Godzilla is a whopping 350 feet, so he’s still going to have a major height advantage over his adversary… »

Tom Hiddleston says Kong: Skull Island will be “spectacular and epic”

3 April 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

King Kong is set to return to the big screen next year courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ Kong: Skull Island, and Tom Hiddleston has been speaking about the upcoming monster movie during a chat with Entertainment Weekly, describing the film as “spectacular and epic.”

“We’re done [filming]. We were in Hawaii, Australia, and Vietnam. And they were all completely different, and eventually they will all look like one homogenous island… Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who directed it, had this extraordinary idea. I don’t want to spoil too much… But it’s a whole new re-conception of the mythology. It essentially follows a group of disparate travelers and explorers and soldiers who travel to an undiscovered island in the South Pacific. And it’s set in a time period where you could conceive that there are still undiscovered places on the earth. What they find on the island is surprising, »

First Looks at New Films from Studio Ghibli, Eugéne Green, and More

22 March 2016 12:25 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

There are few better ways to predict the Cannes lineup than looking up whatever Wild Bunch are soon putting out. The French production outfit earns as much attention as anyone around mid-May, and there are at least two in-development titles that have caught our attention — though you wouldn’t necessarily expect that they have the same people working behind the scenes.

They are The Red Turtle, a co-production with Studio Ghibli directed by Michaël Dudok de Wit, and Blood Father, a thriller directed by Jean-François Richet that stars Mel Gibson, William H. Macy, Diego Luna, Michael Parks, and Erin Moriarty (The Kings of Summer, Jessica Jones), among others. Then there’s Le Fils de Joseph, from Eugène Green — whose La Sapienza was one of my ten favorite movies from last year — and starring Mathieu AmalricFabrizio Rongione (La Sapienza; Two Days, One Night), Natacha Régnier, Victor Ezenfis, and Maria de Medeiros »

The first role that has been confirmed to have been filled is that of one of Archie’s longtime love interests, Betty Cooper. Lili Reinhart (Surviving Jack, The Kings of Summer) will play the small town’s favorite malt sipping blonde who is described as “sweet, studious, eager-to-please and wholesome with a huge crush on her longtime best friend, Archie. Tired of being the perfect daughter, student, sister, etc., she turns to her new friend, Veronica, for life advice — much to the consternation of her emotionally brittle mother.”

The 5th Wave movie review: disaster movie, in more ways than one

22 January 2016 2:31 PM, PST | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Lazy and trite, with a passive protagonist. It’s as if no one here understands the appeal of the postapocalyptic Ya genre it is attempting to piggyback on. I’m “biast” (pro): big sci-fi fan; desperate for stories about women; like Chloë Grace Moretz

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

I have not read the source material

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

And so we reach the point at which movies based on postapocalyptic Ya novels have simply stopped bothering, and now just toss up on the screen a pretty heroine, a couple of hot guys, and an obstacle course of an adventure to plow through, and consider the job done. This one is so lazy and so trite that it is itself a kind of disaster.

Here, there have been four waves of attack on Earth by mysterious aliens hovering over the planet in gigantic ships. »
