Episode cast overview, first billed only:

Robb, his wife Talisa and mother Catelyn arrive for the marriage of Edmure Tully to one of Walder Frey's daughters. There is considerable tension between the two families but Robb's sincere apology for not marrying one of Frey's daughters is well received. It doesn't stop the elderly Frey from being both crude and rude towards his guests. Edmure is pleasantly surprised to see that his bride is to be Frey's prettiest granddaughter, Roslin. The festivities continue but Walder Frey has something very special planned. Arya and Sandor Clegane arrive at the Twins but too late to do anything. Daenerys meanwhile order the attack on Yunkai based on information provided by Daario. Brandon learns the strength of his powers. Jon Snow is forced to choose between the Watch and Ygritte. Robb Stark: [feeling Talisa's belly] Boy or girl?
Talisa Stark: I don't know. But if it's a boy, I know what we should name him.
Robb Stark: Oh, do you? It seems to me the father should have some say in his son's naming.
Talisa Stark: Eddard.
[Robb looks at Talisa serenely]

Life in Red
4 June 2013 | by (France) – See all my reviews

I remember quitting the book franchise for quite a while because of the red wedding. It was that event, when happened, made me put down the book and just stare into space for a good while. Just absorbing the impact of it. Robb was one of my favorite characters and what he did stayed loyal to his character, principles instilled by Ned Stark and fiercely pursued by Robb in honor of his dead father. We all knew the brutality was inevitable for the King of the North, the boy who became a man. How do you film such a powerful episode?

But they managed to do it. Season 3 has been sort of a disappointment since they left out key plots, forgot about main character developments and played around with the time frames, expected when you adapt it for television. And just when I was mourning the death of another epic on the small screen, they brought it back with such a powerful episode. Michelle Fairley carries the episode with her heart-wrenching performance and her cracking, gutted pleas. Which were perfectly complemented by Richard Madden's muted shock as Robb. The silence in the end credits only added to the effect, letting us absorb the enormity of what just happened. Kudos.

I would talk about the other things that happened in the episode, but in comparison to the last few minutes, do they really matter?
