Storyline

Major Crimes investigates the murder of Dr. Christopher Brady, a gastroenterology oncologist found at his office by a janitor on a Sunday, apparently struck on the head with a blunt object and strangled with IV tubing, with refrigerators meant to hold various anticancer drugs and painkillers standing empty. Brady had fired one of his nurses the previous week, but the police learn she left after becoming aware that the doctor was ordering drugs for fictitious patients which allowed him to treat those who were uninsured. When coroner Dr. Morales reviews the medical records of Brady's patients, he concludes that they weren't being treated for cancer at all, which provides the squad with a long list of potential suspects. Meanwhile, Sgt. Gabriel's girlfriend Ann Mason accompanies him to the crime. She manages to get on Brenda's bad side but proves useful later; however, Chief Pope and Brenda's working relationship is severely tested and she begins to question her own future. A heart-breaking episode
25 July 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

After the levity in the Fool's Gold episode, we're back to grim reality. A beloved cancer doctor is found dead in his office- both beaten and strangled. He treated patients even if they couldn't afford treatment; by all accounts he was a good and caring man. His partner, however, not so much. He comes across as a money grubbing and cold man and he duels with Brenda until the end of the show. Brenda is also dealing with the fact that her father, whose cancer treatment was evidently successful, does not seem to be getting any better. So this is a very emotional investigation for her. The side story of Sgt. Gabriel and his girlfriend is well done and interesting. The murder's solution both surprised and appalled me (as it surely was meant to do). Drug Fiend, indeed. The final scene between Brenda and the doctor is amazing.
