In this second episode, a bad bomb explodes and the factor owner tries to blame the women. This episode was better than the first, since I felt I was getting to know the characters more. Still, they remain somewhat flat and inconsistent. So far, Lorna's character has good potential. It was nice to see her confront the factory manager, and she was put into the difficult position of marking down her friend's score during the test. Still, her ridiculing Gladys during the uniform inspection was rather out of character. It also didn't make sense why she suddenly agreed with the suggestion box idea. Gladys has a likable actress, but her naive attempts to be "helpful" borders on annoying and her role is still hard to believe. We should have seen her take the test to be a "bomb girl". You would think she would offer to give up her job to the single mother who was fired. Her fiancé is slightly more interesting in this second episode, but the deal that Glady's father was aiming for felt too convoluted. Overall, Glady's parents and the factory manager both feel too one-dimensional. Kate and Betty are quite likable, though I wonder whether that security papers plot was historically likely. The dialogue for this second episode still feels stilted and bit unnatural at times, with odd lines coming from unlikely characters, like Kate putting down Gladys' idea. Meanwhile, the Italian guy kissing Lorna feels soap-opera-ish, and how is he suddenly going to be able to get the single mother's job back at the end, when he tried earlier with no success? With just 5 or so main locations - the factory, the mansion, the rooming house, the dance hall and the hospital, the show feels too insular. Overall, the episode was better than the first and mildly engaging.
