- Thirteen bachelors go with Emily to Bermuda, but there's stormy weather ahead - including a sailing competition, a two-on-one dateand another dramatic rose ceremony.
- Bachelorette
The men gather in the courtyard and hear some great news from host Chris: everybody will be embarking on a worldwide trip. The first stop: Bermuda! The assembled bachelors hoot and hive five. Time for some fun in the sun. Turns out Emily has already left and is walking on the beach with daughter Ricki. "It's just so cute and so beautiful," Emily says of the foreign locale. Some days later, the men arrive driving not-so-manly scooters. They arrive at their hotel suite and receive the first date card. The first one-on-one will go to Doug.
Arie notes that it's easy to push Doug's buttons -- and the frat house group of boys does just that. They tease Doug, who is super nervous for his date. He lashes out at Arie, who points out (again) that Doug is wracked with anxiety. "Doug angry! Doug smash!" jokes Arie, referring to Doug's Hulk-like frame. Emily soon arrives to save the nervous Hulk, and the two head out for their date. Emily and Doug explore and shop. Soon, Doug is talking about his own son and how he recently started a charity. "Superman wasn't going to show up, so I thought I'd do it," he explains. Emily is super, super impressed.
Later, the rain falls outside while Emily and Doug sit down for dinner. Emily is having a great time, but she is also worried. Doug, like former Bachelor and Emily beau Brad, always seems to have a perfect answer. "I don't want the perfect answer, I want the honest answer," Emily says. So she confronts him, wanting to know the big man's faults. Says Doug, "I'm just a guy. I'm not a genius, but I'm not dumb. I'm not wealthy, but I'm not poor. I'm just Doug." That's good enough for Emily, who offers Doug a rose. He might be "just Doug," but now he is the proud owner of a new flower. "I'm on cloud nine," he says. But Doug is also shy and explains to the camera that, while he'd like to kiss Emily, he never, ever makes the first move. And he doesn't. And they don't kiss.
The next morning, Emily meets a whole bunch of the boys for a group date. Turns out the men will be competing in a sailing race with the winners to continue on the date and the losers to head back to the hotel. "I played D1 college football," Sean tells the camera. "I know what it's like to be serious and competitive." Back at the hotel, the remaining men discover that John and Nate will be going on the dreaded two-on-one date. Neither is thrilled.
Meanwhile, the race begins. "We just gave it a thousand percent," Travis tells the camera, followed by footage of the men giving it a thousand percent. Emily rides alongside in a skiff and explains that she hates to watch men compete. Nevertheless, the competition is fierce. In a close finish, the yellow team wins, meaning that Travis, Charlie, D1 Sean, and the rest of the red crew are gone. On the van ride home, Charlie appears to be weeping (though it's not entirely clear as he hides his face). Anyway, it's awkward. The yellow team, on the other hand, is psyched -- especially Ryan, who raises a toast to Emily, his "trophy wife." Once again: awkward.
Later, Emily takes Arie to the beach for some one-on-one time. They are soon making out. "My feelings for Emily just keep growing," he tells the camera. "I'm so confidant by what we have that I'm not threatened by anybody in the house." Jef is next to hang out with Emily and says that he loves the "vibe" they apparently share. Emily is loving it, too, but Jef, like Doug, opts not to make the move. She is disappointed. Now it's Ryan's turn -- and events quickly take a turn for the weird. "I'm not here to impress you, but make an impression upon you," Ryan tells Emily. And he apparently has because Emily makes reference to the many comments made by Ryan, including his quip about how she should always remain thin. Ryan then launches into a speech about how Emily has a great responsibility as The Bachelorette -- and he doesn't think it reflected well on her to be kissing Arie in the hallway last week. "I just feel like he's judging me," Emily tells the camera. Maybe because Ryan definitely is. Later, Emily then gives the rose to Jef, thoroughly confusing and disappointing Arie.
The next day, it's time for the dreaded two-on-one date. Emily is not looking forward to it. Nate and John hate the idea of it. So this should be fun. Back at the hotel room, Chris gets angry at Doug because Doug declares that older men (like Doug, who is 33) are wiser than younger men (like Chris, who is 25). Meanwhile, Nate, John and Emily decide to go cliff diving before they go cave exploring. Inside the caves, the three have dinner. It's incredibly awkward. Nobody is saying much of anything before Emily asks for some one-on-one time with Nate. He explains how he wants multiple kids and how much he loves his brother. Nate then begins to cry ... hard. "Oh, that's so sweet," Emily says.
The Bachelorette then spends some intimate time with John, who admits that he is not the most outgoing of the men. Decision time. Emily awards the rose to John and says goodbye to Nate. "I think Nate is just really young," she tells the camera. "That's a big part of maturity." So long, Nate. We hardly knew ye. The next night, Emily welcomes the men to yet another cocktail party. Ryan and Emily are having some one-on-one time when they are interrupted by Arie. Ryan is upset -- and decides that the other men are so threatened by him that they he almost feels sorry for them. Almost. Later, Ryan blatantly makes a case for becoming the next Bachelor. Is he here for the right reasons?
Chris, in the meantime, is still fuming that Doug dared to question his age and readiness for husbandhood/fatherhood. So Chris tells Emily that he IS ready -- and how a few guys might've suggested that he isn't all that mature. Emily accepts him, but that's not good enough for Chris. Later, Chris pulls aside Doug. "I want to know why you think you're the better man for Emily?" Chris asks. "I'm talking to you like a grown-ass man right now." Doug accuses Chris of being insecure (true) and overly emotional (very true). Chris accuses Doug of being "overly humble" (also true) and not at all genuine (still up for debate).
Rose ceremony time. Flowers go to ... Sean ... Arie ... Travis ... Chris ... Ryan ... Kalon ... and ... Alejandro. So it's good night, good luck to Michael and Charlie. The former cries. The latter declares that "this sucks" ... and then cries.
