What an upturn in quality.

A Doctor, named Lambert is killed whilst at a club, the barman is also poisoned, but survives. Larry takes charge of the case, and Geordie is forced to desk duties. Will is becoming increasingly dependent on pills, and his behaviour becomes erratic.

I've been a little critical of this eighth series, but credit where it's due.

Easily the best episode from this somewhat below par eighth series, the story was way more interesting, and I didn't feel as though I was watching an soap opera, the last few were just too heavy on the melodrama.

Will's storyline was really interesting, although I'm a little concerned by the baby silence.

Larry won me over somewhat here, and I loved seeing Miss Scott having a more active role, even if it was an unlikely scenario for the time.

A really nice guest cast, how good was Brian Bovell, what a versatile actor.

I'm now excited for the series finale. Something has to happen to Geordie's boss.

8.5/10.

Will Goes Off the Rails
Hitchcoc7 August 2023
We know from the previous episode that Will has gotten hold of some amphetamines and because of his guilt is now doing them regularly. He is hooked. Meanwhile, Geordie is being phased out by that awful precinct captain, who resents him and does what he can to drive him away. Will is flying around about a hundred miles an hour, trying to solve all the stuff he can. He eventually destroys any chance of the halfway house continuing when he attacks a person who has its fate in her hands. Geordie knows Will is on something and confronts him. Filled with self pity and self hatred, Will goes off to find God, but only gets into trouble.

Episode 5
Prismark103 March 2024
The penultimate episode of series eight is more interested in the various soapy threads.

Will is addicted to pills as he has constant flashbacks to the accident where he ran over a pedestrian. Geordie has been put back to desk duties. His boss wants to force Geordie into retirement.

Leonard's Halfway House is scheduled for an inspection. Only Will kiboshed it with a temper tantrum at the woman who was the inspector.

It all threatened to send the main plot into second place. On a visit to the bar, a doctor was poisoned as well as the barman. The doctor died but the barman survived.

The bottle of special reserve turns out to be poisoned. It soon transpires that many people had motive to kill the doctor. He was involved in blackmailing his patients.

Larry investigates with the help of Miss Scott. Geordie is dragged in when it turns out that the barman and his wife were from behind the Iron curtain.

It was not the strongest of stories. There seemed to be some fun with cult television. A Russian called Kurakin and a doctor who had a surgery on Totter's Lane.
