A Fun Episode

A really fun if slightly silly episode

On January 1, 2012, Marshall heads back to St. Cloud, Minnesota to spend the day alone with his father at the cemetery to keep on with a tradition between the two: hold a tailgate party while watching the Vikings/Bears game. Marshall resists any change to what he sees as that tradition, so he comes to tell his father of the exploits of his and Lily's and their friends' New Year's Eve celebrations. Marshall and Lily discussed whether or not they should tell Lily's father about her pregnancy. Kevin tried to convince Robin that she should try and get a job working in front of the camera once again. Their New Year's Eve celebration alone together took an unexpected turn. And Ted and Barney had troubles trying to get into crowded MacLaren's due to bouncer Doug's strict entrance policy. As such, Ted and Barney, with help from a then dateless for the evening Kevin, decided to open Puzzles, their own bar in Ted and Robin's apartment.

The website for Puzzles Bar, shown in this episode, is real. You can access it at puzzlesthebar.com.

With a great musical number from Ted and Barney, this episode is a lot of fun, whilst the Marshal scenes were touching.

Tailgate (#7.13)

Warning: Spoilers
Ted and Barney "opening a bar" again is a fun story. Loved the song that I assume was based on Cheers just like the sign they created and seeing the fun bodyguard against was good, he brings some funny moments.

But my favorite of this episode was actually not the funnest story but the one of Lily and Marshall and their dads. We laugh a bit about Marshall and his brothers wanting to spend time at the grave alone, but then it hits him that being together is much better. they have a nice bbq with many people like they would if he was still alive. And Lily's story is so touching. I did expect it to happen, and yet when she opens the door and her dad is outside it was just beautiful.

Both silly and emotional

This episode is one of the best. Not all the jokes are as good but some of them land and the silly puzzles bar is played out well. Also this is a heartfelt episode reminding us of Marshall's dad and Lilly's dad.
