Storyline

Mrs. Brown and her family get ready for Christmas. This is always hectic around the Brown's at the holidays and this year will be no different. Buster is his usually self, selling a tin of biscuits that the best used by date was last year. He also sold Mrs. Brown a "fresh" turkey. This year, Mrs. Brown wants to try out for the Nativity play at her church. But is the Virgin Mary the right part for Mrs. Brown to be trying out for? We'll see if she gets the part. But what does she want more than anything for Christmas, her whole family to get together. This includes her son, Trevor, who is away doing missionary work. But this doesn't look promising because Trevor has prior commitments. Written by Danny B Mergen Jr <webmaster@outworldrec.com>

A Christmas special that gets mixed feelings from me
8 December 2013 | by (Valhalla) – See all my reviews

This is the third Christmas Special I'm reviewing in a row in my attempt to watch 12 of them before Christmas. I've already reviewed the Bottom Christmas special and I enjoyed it so what's wrong with this one you may ask.

Well once you get down to it, the message is my biggest problem. It's not that it isn't there - Hell, I might have liked this a bit more if it was. The plot focuses on bringing in Trevor, one of Agnes' sons out of complete nowhere and talks about how he's her favourite and wants to see him back for Christmas because he was in a missionary for 4 years. When he can't it naturally upsets her and it only goes right when Trevor returns.

The gripe in what message that's trying to convey is because I see it as conveying the message of "If your favourite child can't come to Christmas, mope about it regardless of the fact you have other children." I guess what it's trying to do is the message of "Christmas is incomplete without your whole family." But in order to do that they should have changed something. Such as the line that he was away for 4 years. If it was one then I could understand. Not to mention Agnes has FOUR OTHER CHILDREN. Give them some consideration please!

So the humour is still there and sometimes it does make me laugh as much as other Mrs Browns Boys Episodes do. The Message of the story is my biggest gripe with it and the part that gets me not liking this. I know they'd do that because they've been doing messages since Day 1. If you can see past the gripes I have in twisting an okay message into one that is confused then you'll probably like it. It is okay for mindless entertainment and it is better than the second and third Christmas Specials which I can't seem to find on IMDb.
