Storyline
When a documentary team visits the retirement home where he works,kindly,simple, middle-aged Derek is delighted as he loves reality TV - especially Secret Millionaire - and has 35,000 autographs. Douglas,his co-worker and landlord,is less impressed. Really enjoyed this. I found it incredibly poignant and moving. There were moments which i found funny, such as the hamster video and musings of Karl Pilkington but i believe my enjoyment was ultimately derived from the heartwarming story. The last 7 minutes or so had me in genuine tears and for a show that had me laughing only minutes earlier is a great achievement. i don't usually write reviews yet i felt urged to do so after reading some of the degree of negativity portrayed in the responses. admittedly the program isn't for everyone but it is something which i am sure will be greatly appreciated by those who are prepared to see something different and provocative. Once again, Ricky Gervais has outdone himself.
