Storyline

Detective Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) is forced to shoot a man threatening the life of his lover, Anna Fulford (Lisa Faulkner). But when Anna doesn't recognize her assailant, it's apparent to Murdoch that the Black Hand crime syndicate is watching her with intent to kill. Struggling for a way to ensure her freedom, he's also immersed in the investigation of a young librarian's murder. While delving into the sordid world of taverns, gambling dens and brothels, he's invited to a hotel room by a mysterious woman (Bryn McAuley) whose seduction resembles that of the dead woman. Dr. Ogden (Hélène Joy) abandons her efforts to promote birth control and returns to her medical practice. However, her growing frustration with the wellbeing of her patients sends her back on her crusade, with potentially damaging consequences.
