Shows what a good camera can do – but also shows what it cannot

I am not totally sure on the detail, but understand this short film is tied to promotion for a new Canon camera which offers a "reasonable" price for a camera that produces very professional results, comparable to something much more expensive. As such you should not be surprised to see that the film produces some very nice images and shots as it moves around the desert setting, with static shots with wide, clear images of great color, but also chase sequences, panning shots, dust storms with limited visibility and many other things that seem specifically in here to show off the camera.

To an expert in such things, I guess it must work as an advert, but to a common viewer it does still work as a professionally and well- shot short film with a good eye and a good camera to serve it. So on that front it works well, however somewhat ironically it also shows what the camera cannot do – which is to make a good film out of something that just looks good. The plot is simple, and if you know what the title means then it is fairly predictable (if you do not know then the end credits helpfully explain it by showing it over the word). Although you can see it coming, even then you cannot figure out the why's of any of it, and it does very much feel like an idea half-cooked but yet deemed to be good enough to do the job. The opening car journey is clumsy in its delivery of exposition (or at least, what passes as such here). The performances are a bit lacking too, although with so little to work with then it is hard to be too much on them about that.

So yes, Möbius does look good with good movement, but this should not be the only good thing to say about a film – but sadly it pretty much is here, as it takes a familiar plot device and does nothing with it of any note.
